Getting between heathrow and gatwick

How difficult would it be to get between heathrow and gatwick for 2 adults with 3children (one of which will only be just turned 1) plus 2 suitcases, a buggy and 2 car seats plus hand luggage.

If we fly from newcastle to orlando we would have to do that on a Wednesday evening and then the reverse on a Saturday morning. Last year we drove to manchester to fly direct with virgin but at the moment the prices are coming in too high. I'm hanging on to see if they come down but want to consider all my options.

By which method? National Express coach is easiest but at £42 return per adult plus whatever they charge for kids, you might as well book a private transfer through Addison Lee or similar.

We had to get a taxi between gatwick and heathrow a couple of years ago for 2 adiults and 2 kids and it was just over £100 and took about an hour and the taxi driver was pushing it as we were tight for time!!

Ideally you should allow 5hrs between LHR-LGW to collect luggage, transfers and re-entering the system, question is do you really want to do this with 3 children?

Frankly, it's not something I would like to do with children and assorted luggage in tow.

In any case, by the time you pay to transfer between the two airports, will it be any cheaper than taking an alternative, easier route?

EDI - LGW - MCO will be much easier than NCL - LHR - LGW - MCO.

As I have said on your Orlando thread post it's only 60 odd miles to EDI...and you have many choices from there.

BA and Virgin are not the be all and end all when it comes to flying across the pond.

We are flying ftom edin to gatwick and then onto mco in july, it works out about £1000 saving on our family holiday rather than flying direct to florida from edin/glasgow:)

It's working out a lot cheaper through BA than virgin enough so it may be worth a bit of hassle as we're not talking a few hundred. We would be travelling out the next day going and then would have about 5 hours on return.

MrMarcoos I was wondering how difficult it was so we would just arrive home to newcastle and not have to do 2 flights and a drive.

We usually fly down the day before and stay in the premier inn. On the way back we arrive in gatwick at 7.25am and booked on the 10.55am flight back to edinburgh. Have done this five times now, and its all just part of our holiday:))
