Connecting flight worries.

Hopefully you guys ccan help out with this. We are flying from Sydney to NYC JFK on QANTAS next month. We arrive at JFK at 5pm and our connecting flight with American Airlines leaves for Boston at 8pm. Is this enough time to make the connecting flight? Is there anything we can do to expediate the process? We stop in LA to refuel before continuing to NYC, would we go through customs there?

Thanks in advance

Around 3 hours is the recommended time to clear Immigration/Customs at your arrival airport in the US for an international to domestic connection so you should be ok.

The only thing you can do is to sit close to the front of the plane on your Qantas flight and don't dawdle on your way to Immigration to minimise your wait time at US Immigration.

In case you don't know you'll collect your checked bags after Immigration but before Customs, after Customs there will be an AA desk for you to hand back your bags so you only need to get to your departure gate.

You normally clear Customs and Immigration at your first entry point into the US, which in your case should be LA. Check your stop at LA and see how long it is. It should have enough time built in to clear the Ummigration/Customs formalities.

You will clear immigration and customs at LAX. Your flight to JFK is classed as a domestic flight. At LAX, passengers from the connecting Qantas flights from BNE and MEL will join the flight to JFK.

Ummm.......what you do need to be aware of, is that the JFK flight is sometimes delayed if the BNE or MEL flight is late as there are many transferring passengers.

Hmm? "Refuel"?? I have not heard of folks just staying on the plane while it refuels but Qantas may be different in that regard.I'd call and make sure you don't have to get off the plane for a change of equipment.

Is it this flight?

Don't refuel. Everyone has to go through immigration and customs.

Well the plane might refuel, but everyone has to disembark to go through immigration and customs. Yes have a read of the post that Riff M has listed. It is the same flight.
