re comfort packs-it depends on the length of the flight soooooo unless you've flown the specific route being asked about I'm afraid your information is probably wrong.

I have flown that route in 2012 and 2013 and can confirm 'no' comfort packs offered.

You will get lunch after leaving ADL and their famous 'sausage roll' which I find un-edible, before arriving in KUL.

As interest Singapore Airlines to compare 'do' offer comfort kits on the overnight southbound flights from SIN but they also offer things like menus, hot towels . comprehensive drink choices, much better meals, proper breakfast etc, so these days a big difference between them and Malaysia Airlines. But Malaysia Airlines are quite a lot cheaper

"read some horror stories?"

Mark, I haven't flown that route. My MH experience is flights of about 5-6 hours, but on their long haul fleet (777 and A330). No horror story from me.

I haven't flown Singapore so can't compare with them, but I found MH to be very good. The meals have been fine (the last one very good, though with a 6 hour flight I didn't get to sample the sausage roll), the drinks selection ample, good legroom in the economy seats and a very good movie and TV selection with in seat AVOD.

They're very strict with their baggage allowance and they weigh carry ons, so be aware of that. But IMO Malaysia is one of the better airlines out there. If they're cheap, then even better.
