Confusion about Thomas Cook premium upgrade

I'm looking to book our honeymoon in the next couple of days. Thomas Cook Manchester - cancun. I've never flown with Thomas Cook before, I like Thomson but they don't do the hotel we want. What do you actually get for the premium upgrade? They've quoted us £225 each but I've read somewhere that you don't get free drinks? I don't want to be paying nearly £500 just for a slightly bigger seat and getting on the plane first. Any help is appreciated :-)

All you get with a Thomas Cook upgrade is the Premium seats Outbound and Inbound, Choose your Seat, 25kg Luggage Allowance, Priority Check-in and Priority Boarding. Yes you are correct no complimentary drinks as in years past.

No complimentary drinks. It tells you their websites and brochures what's included, or your agent will have full details.

GBP166 per person of that cost goes straight to the UK Government for APD when sitting in the 'Premium' cabin. This also goes up in April.

Thanks guys! Don't think we'll bother with the upgrade then, we'll just pay for select your seats.

It's only £83 of the upgrade cost that goes direct to the government. The other £83 is already included in the basic fare.

This may be a very stupid question! We have booked for September does that mean that we will have to pay more for the upgrade or is this tax not retrospective?

We have only paid the deposit balance not due until June.

Many thanks

I would think as previous years the airlines will not be asking for retrospective tax increases for pre purchases as they had prior notice to the increase and will have already factored it into their fares.

In the upcoming budget it looks like the chancellor is set to increase it again from April 2015 - just as Ireland are preparing to scrap their equivalent from April 1st.
