I am planning for my trip to England and Scotland this summer, and looking at my luggage. In the past few months, I have flown from Montreal to Washington, Seattle, San Francisco, Orange County, Toronto and St. John's. Half the time, if I brought a rolling carry-on suitcase, I was asked to have it valet checked just as I was entering the airplane. Seems that with charges for first checked baggage being more common, along with the desire to avoid carousel waits and missing baggage, there is more of a strain on available cabin space (winter coats add to the room strain at this time of year also).
After a few experiences of waiting a little too long in bitter temperatures to get my valet checked luggage back just outside the plane door, I feel like I am going to start avoiding the classic rolling suitcase for a carry-on that fits under the seat. On a long weekend trip to Washington, both my husband and son had either a soft, over the shoulder carry-on or a backpack and they were able to carry theirs on board. It was handy to have my roller because travelling through the long terminals, we could pile their bags on my roller. So if I get an under the seat type of bag, I would still like it to have wheels.
Any suggestions of good bags to use that fit under the seat? I have been researching this on-line and in-store but would love to hear any opinions from the travellers here in Trip Advisor.
