Worried about flying Iberia

Is worth me paying an extra $500 to switch to a different airline? Reviews have been horrendous, and many people said their luggage was lost. I can deal with bad food but lost luggage? Very nervous. Any insight would be appreciated!

Very seldom do airlines lose luggage, it is normally done by ground handling staff at the airports so if you are travelling the same route chances are it will be the same people that handle it, so what's the point in shelling out $500 extra?

Ashley where are you flying from and to? Many routes are code shared with BA and other Openworld member airlines.

Maybe a bit more info please.

I'm flying from New York to Florence with one connecting flight. My return flight is from Lisbon to New York.

Lost luggage tales can get blown out of all proportion because people are more likely to complain than to praise. The vaste majority of people do not have lost luggage. Many of the bags that are delayed are because the baggage had missed a connection. So if you have a non stop flight with no connection you luggage is less likely to be delayed.

Most baggage is not lost just delayed.

Don't change flights just because of rumours and posts on forums.

What happens if it goes astray in NY on the way out or Lisbon on the way back, you would've paid $500 extra and got the same result???

A friend of mine flew with Iberia last week MIA-MAD and said how much they had improved. He was in biz class but had been dreading the flight from previous experiance. So hopefully you will also be happily surprised.

$500 will buy you some good stuff to replace if it goes missing!

Do not waste your money and stop worrying. Put your mind at ease and think about flying as going from A to B in the air.

Iberia is not the best airline in the world, but also not the worst. You will fly safely from A to B. Their food is not really tasty but then you do not fly to celebrate fine food.

Iberia sometimes offers cheap upgrades at the check-in in New York (around USD 80 for the first leg), if they offer this, take it with a smile any day.

Luggage very rarely goes on another flight than you do, but in most cases you will be reunited very quickly again ;-). This however has very little to do with the airline but with ground staff. It is pure bad luck and can happen to first class passengers in a top airline or to economy class passengers in a low cost carrier.

Don't worry. Save your money. None of the thousands if travelers that have uneventful flights post so all you get to read online is the bad stuff.
