Baggage Transfer

We are returning from Kefalonia in September on Aegean Airlines and fly to Athens for Aegean connection to Manchester. Never having done this route before could any one tell me if when we land in Athens our luggage is automatically transferred to the Manchester flight or do we have to collect it and take to the luggage drop.

Many Thanks

Assuming all the flights are on a single ticket the baggage would normally be transferred for you.

Yes, if this is all on one ticket you'd get the baggage labelled through to Manchester at Kefalonia and it would be transferred for you in Athens. You'd also get boarding cards for both flights at Kefalonia, unless you'd done online check-in and printed them yourself, in which case you can do both flights at the same time, from 24 hours before the first flight departs.

Thanks Andy. Not having travelled this way before I wanted to be sure before the trip.

Cheers

If you fly with the same ticket, they will be carried over, ask there. Bear in mind, In Athens you will most likely need to go to departures and print your boarding pass there from the automated system or the kiosks. It won't eat up time, pretty much the same time to go from arrivals to departures +5 min plus go through check in control again and it's not really a considerable diversion. Ask there they will tell you.

While I've never flow from Kefalonia via Athens on Aegean I have done island-Athens-London flights with Aegean lots of times. It was always possible to get the boarding passes for the whole journey from the automated kiosk at the island airport, and since baggage is being checked in, the Bag Drop staff will be able to issue boarding passes for the section from Athens if the machines aren't working, after all, they have to be able to see your total journey on their system since you're travelling on a through ticket.

Finally, Aegean also do boarding passes on smartphones - even from Mykonos!
