Can't be that critical of an emergency if they're burning off fuel before landing if the article is correct.

"Can't be that critical of an emergency if they're burning off fue"

Not wanting to be alarmist but remember SR111?

The aircraft has to burn off (or dump) fuel in order to land safely if it has enough on board to get to Greece. I just hope that they do have enough time whatever the problem is.

Cockpit emergency procedures have changed since then, partly due to that accident. The Swiss pilots didn't even declare an emergency, only pan pan pan.

Indeed, but landing full of fuel is still a no-no. So no matter what the emergency, if the aircraft is still flyable, getting rid of fuel is a priority.

Anyway, alls well that ends well. I wonder when the compensation claims will start! :-)

Absolutely Douglas. Looks like they've burned fuel and gone to Manchester, probably better equipped to handle it.

Bott & Co have probably despatched an emergency response team to MAN and are signing up all the pax as they enter the arrivals hall. :-)
