any advice on how to travel from venice to Athens
Many options. What's more important to you; time or money?
We have done this trip by ferry. Actually we joined the ferry in Ancona, after it had already left Venice.
The journey was Overnight on Super Fast Ferries, arriving in Patras then a connecting bus met the arriving ferry and travelled across to Athens.
It was a terrific and relaxing option. We chose to purchase a cabin and had a good night sleep. It was certainly cost efficient as well. All booked and paid for online with no problems at all..
You can fly direct via the Alitalia website and the plane flown is Air One, about £100 if you choose the right date.
.. quickest would obviously be a flight.. both Austrian Air and Aegean Air offer direct flights.. the latter offers some good deals as well depending on when you're looking to travel:-) Of course, depending on how much time you're willing to spend getting from one place to the other, the ferry option out of Italy works as well.. I took the train down to Bari/Brindisi and overnighted on the ferry to Corfu.. arriving super early around 6a.. after a few days there, flew to Athens.. you can check the ferry schedules between Italy and Greece at www.greekferries.gr/ Best and EnJOY!
<both Austrian Air and Aegean Air offer direct flights>
I don't think Austrian airlines have direct flights.
Both Airone and Aegean will stop their services for this route in September. The flights are operated during the summer months.
thanks for the insight, much appreciated
looks like this will be the best option, many thanks
