ncl epic

Do think the Epic is going to be any nicer than other NCL ships? We've been on the Oasis, Freedom, Navigator and Celebrity Solstice. I don't want any smoke on the ship!!!

Epic is NCL's first 5 star rated ship (others range from 3.5 to 4.5 stars). This reflects its newness, and the wide range of amenities available (like the unique ice bar).

As for smoking, ship's policies won't be any different than other NCL vessels. That means there is smoking on one side of the pool, none on the other, and smoking on all other open decks; smoking in the cabins; and in the casino and cigar bars.

Princess Caribbean Princess had people smoking everywhere - cigars, pipes, the works. It was NASTY!!!!

Just to let you know the EPIC allows people to smoke in the casinos and the casinos is the CENTER of the ship so you do smell the smoke and you need to basically walk through it often so it is annoying! We also did the Oasis as well this past January (EPIC was in September) and the rooms on the EPIC is much tighter. But for the money difference on the Oasis and EPIC you can't really complain, naturally Oasis was a better ship.

Having just returned from the Epic on Saturday 9th October I can confirm there are smoking area's throughout only the casino area however as pointed out above this is where you embark & disembark and the central point of the ship so you will experience smokers.

Yes the smoking is highly annoying especially as you get a shower & ready for the evening then end up covered in smoke, however the parties on the back deck are outdoors so the smoking wasnt a problem, i would reccommend sticking to RC all the way!

yes i too have just returned from a cruise on the NCL Epic and yes smoking seems to be on all tghose areas, but the worst is the fact that people can smoke (ANYTHING) ON THEIR balconies and then that soon gets into your cabin , i feel that smoking should be banned from the cabin quarters .

This news has definately made me strike NCL off the list for a cruise next year. Will look elsewhere. It is a shame. When on the Ventura at Easter this wasn't a problem at all.

We returned today from our Thanksgiving week cruise on the EPIC. I will not, after 4 cruises on NCL, go on another. The smoke problem is just to annoying. I concur with all that has been said about that subject.

I appreciate everyone's comments if you wouldn't mind addressing another... My wife and I have 10K to blow on a 7 day med cruise. The Epic looked like a good line with a new ship having an attractive suite. Knowing Trip Advisor contributors are travel gurus who do their homework, will we be satisfied or should we look at another option in light of our budget and desires?

Personal info: In our mid 30-s leaving a kid state side, eager to experience the culture of the ports in addition to enjoying the ship. We have no problem paying for good service but hate to be nickel and dimed as can happen on vacation.

Any thoughts are deeply, deeply appreciated.

I'm eager to hear input on this too. We are considering a Med cruise on EPIC in late April from Barcelona. I had been shocked at shore excursion costs (sometimes over $200/per person per trip). Now the smoke news has me concerned too.
