Amsterdam to Budapest - what side of ship?

We are in the process of booking an APT river cruise from Amsterdam to Buderpest and wondered if anyone who has done this cruise could advise which side of the ship is better for viewing local scenery? Does the ship hug one side or alternate from side to side? Just thought if there was a preference we could book a cabin on that side of the ship.

The ship sails south but turns upstream (which will also be a variable on your route) to dock. There are great sights on each side of the river, sometimes at the same moment. Then at dock you may be on a busy street and will want your curtains closed or on the outside (the other side) and then have another ship dock up next to you. It is impossible to try to figure this out and it will vary every day. But, if you want to do some more research into the best possible experience then you can look at some of the better river cruise options that have an Aussie portion to their website. But no worries....if this is your first river cruise you are bound to enjoy anything you choose because this is a terrific way to travel.

Jillaby, our cruise is actually at the end of May 2012 but we booked early to get earlybird discounts. We might end up on the same cruise!

On the question of which side of ship to book, we are travelling with another couple and decided that we would each book on either side so we can share the view.

We are going next year with Scenic cruise & that is what we did

one couple is on port side the other is on starboard so we can just use the balcony on the good side.... LOL

Enjoy the cruise

When you all get back I want to hear from you as to which side is 'the good side'. I'm betting it will be the Sun Deck where you can take in all the sights just as fast as you can swivel your head....lol.

We have made the trip twice with Viking and have found that all we use the cabin for is sleeping. The sun deck is always the best choice, but watch out for the bridges. If you get to warm , most of the ships have lounges with wrap around views that are almost as good

We did this trip with Vicking at the end of last year, to me any side was magic, sailing into Budapest in the evening was an unforgettable sight, the folk dancing on board was entertaining, and as ever the crew outstanding, hardworking and delightful. Hope you have a wonderful trip. I have 2 more booked for the end of this year.
