Costa Favolosa

Hi,

Has anyone recently cruised on the Costa Favolosa and able to advise what the smoking policy is please? My wife and I are non smokers and are shortly to travel on this ship out of Dubai. We have just heard that one can smoke throughout the ship and are very concerned that we will not find a smoke-free area in which to relax (and enjoy a drink). Any other advise/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

DT

I've not cruised on the Costa line so can't say for sure, but my reading of a few websites shows that there are public places on board where smoking is allowed.

Here's a link to Cruise Critic which I think is pretty much up to date as it notes changes to Princess' smoking policy that are in effect now. - www.cruisecritic.co.uk/articles.cfm?ID=225

We cruised from Venice with Costa last year and there was definitely more smoking areas than I expected. However, ALL bars have smoke free area, ALL restaurants are no smoking and on our Dubai Costa cruise 2 years ago, there were far fewer smokers then on the Italian departure

Found this on Costa Cruise's Website "FAQ" Section:

Is it possible to smoke onboard? In the Theatres, Restaurants, Buffet Restaurant (indoor), corridors, halls, lifts and in the stairwells smoking is strictly forbidden.

There are reserved smoking areas in the lounges.

Pipes and cigars may only be smoked in designated areas.

We have been last week on the Costa Favolosa and are not able to say very good things about this ship. Smoking is allowed all over on deck, in the bars, in the casino. We had to change our seats sometimes but don't worry about that too much. There are things which are worse: bad food, bad service and too many people on the ship (4100). The restaurants are very crowded and sometimes you really have to fight to get something (Midnight buffet for exemple). And there is another thing which makes you angry: you have to pay for everything. We printed our flight tickets and that costs you 2.50 Euros and 10 Euros for an hour in the internet! The excursions are really expensive, so we decided to go on our own. That was a good decision!

I have read dozens of reviews regarding Costa ships. The overall opinion of non smokers and non europeans is that Costa is to be avoided at all costs. The only smoking policy is apparently, smoke the hell where you like except the restaurants where it is the only place it is enforced. Everywhere else on their ships is fair game for smokers, anywhere that is designated non smoking, which their are not too many off is blatantly ignored. Apparently MSC has the same problem. These are italian run ships even though they are owned by Carnival. The italians have no non smoking policy, They nearly all smoke, everywhere. You have been warned my friend.

Just been back from Favolosa. Very glad that they have clearly indicated the smoking and non-smoking areas now! No problem at all for us non-smokers.

We are satisfied with Favolosa as a whole.

It's decoration is outdated in my opinion. The atrium is too small and no grand feeling.

The swim pools are small, too. But there are a lot of facilities for children. I guess children will like them.

The rooms are very comfortable. Cabins are make up twice a day. The door loops of the wardrobes make it very difficult to open. I suggest placing something in between the wardrobe and its door to stop it from closing tightly. There are 3 wardrobes and many drawers in our cabin. We can place all our luggage in them.

Favolosa adds a floor name to each floor which I think is just confusing. There are a lot of restaurants and bars on the same floor and they are in Italian Names, so very difficult to remember. Moreover, signs are not enough. So, I suggest one look at the floor maps (which is provided at check-in) to find out the location before going out of the cabin.

Meals are generally fine, though occasionally tasteless. We think choices are enough.

Staff are hardworking and polite. All of them can speak English. But sometimes not so easy to understand (my English is not good either). But I learned that they have to work 11 hours a day and have no leave until the end of their contract (at least 6 months). Even the singers have to sing continuously for 6-8 hours. So, they are sometimes too tired. And I found staff at the information desk not really helpful.

We all think their shows only average, if not boring. We saw the same group of performers almost every night. The only good show is "Ice and Fire" on Thursday. But, at Dinner time, the staff will have a small show almost every evening, which make the atmosphere cheerful.

Embarkation and disembarkation are extremely smooth. This may be due to our timing is right. Actually, I must appraise their disembarkation process. On the last day on board, they allow you to leave the cabin at 1pm. For those joining their excursions, 4pm. You can stay and keep on using their facilities until evening. No push at all! Some people even leave on Saturday. I don't know how much would the additional charge be.

Please let me know if you have further queries.

Thanks for giving us more feedback.

I'm surprised that you can stay on board a little longer - all the lines I've cruised on usually want you off the ship ASAP.

Siumee, how did you find the prices for drinks and did you have to pay extra for something you thought should have been included?

Would you cruise with Costa again?
