You won't need to take cash for use on the ship unless it is for the casino or for tipping (Thomsons policy is voluntary tips).If you have a credit card you get a Cruise Card which you use for all onboard purchases and you can settle the bill at the end of the cruise with your credit card. As post #1 says all pricing and billing is in GBP.

If you use a debit card you can avoid the cc charge.
