Mariner of the Seas isn't going to be starting Asia itineraries until June ... prior to that she's been in the Caribbean in recent years. Here's a link to an overview of the ship: www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm…
If you'd like to read reviews from others who have cruised on her, click on the link "More Reviews" under the photo.
If you are looking for information on the ports, you could try the destination forums here, or on the Asia ports forum on CC: boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=70
Thanks. Silly me that RCL has not started in the area yet.
Reading some reviews from Asia ports where people pushed and shoved their way on cruises have turned me off already.
Maybe we should give it a try. Our family has not done a cruise yet so at least we have to do one just for experience hoping for better but not worse.
Hello I did the mariner of the seas cruise from Singapore to shangai in June I could not recommend it you don't stop in the ports they say most were about 3hrs out with no transfers .only tours to see sights at high prices .boat ok food average and the same every day drinks not cheap . Could not recommend over rated boat
Hello, travelling on Mariner of the Sea in February from Singapore, stopping at Laem Chabang and then Vietham. have done self tours with the south pacific, but unsure with this cruise any ideas or tips. thanks Michelle
Well, we did this cruise ship for 5 nites from Singapore, Port Klang and Phuket during Jan 14 and it was fantastic. There were more than 60 nationalities of more than 3000 cruisers and >1000 staff on the ship. >700 are Singaporeans and >600 aussies came in as second.
We had most of the meals in MDR and cannot fault on staff services or food. Took up soda package for children which is $5 a day so whenever they need soft drink, they only need to show their cards. $20 a day for unlimited premium coffee, soda, bottled water and non alcohol cocktails is pretty good value as normal coffee and tea served during meals were not as good. A bucket of 4 beers for $15 is reasonable as we are not strong drinkers. We also tried out Giovanni Italian and for $15pp for lunch $20pp for dinner and the food were really good. Only have lunch once in buffet and the food were not as good as in MDR.
There were some shows but a bit late so we did miss a few of them. Plenty of entertainment and 5 nights were perfect as not too long or too short.
Embarkation and disembarkation were pretty quick except for 30 minutes fire drill where some people so slack that they took their time to gather at their required location.
Overall, we enjoy our maiden cruise and intend to cruise again
thanks for your reply it's good that you can pre purchase your drinks. We are seated for dinner each night, that must be the buffet? glad you enjoyed your holiday, this will be our 3rd cruise. but not to Asia.
MDR is for seated dinner where you nominated your dining time either 6 or 8pm. You can also have breakie and/or lunch in MDR which is a la cart if you do not want buffet which is in Windjammer. We purchased our drink package on the day we embark the ship. Cheers
Forgot to add that as we have side trips before the cruise to Phuket & KL, we did not do any shore tours by the cruise. Yes, tours organised by the cruise were a lot dearer and we could not compare to the tours that we did so cant give any tips sorry
