First cruise, Emerald Princess,Eastern Caribbean

My self, my husband and 2 teenagers have booked to go to the Eastern Caribbean in December on the above ship. This is our first ever cruise and we have some questions.....

1. Are the onboard activities free?

2. Can you eat at any of the dining places at no extra cost?

3. What is the cheapest way to buy drinks?

4. We are going over christmas is there a traditional christmas dinner?

5. Is there a church service?

6.Does the ship provide pool/beach towels?

Any other help or tips would be great.

Thanks

1. Are the onboard activities free?

Yes. Anything that is not included in your cruise fare (spa treatments, photos, some fitness classes, etc) are all very clearly marked. All shows, dance classes, trivia, pool games, movies, lectures, comedians, entertainment, music, etc is included in your cruise fare.

2. Can you eat at any of the dining places at no extra cost? Almost. There are a few pay venues (specialty restaurants). These again will be marked in the Princess Patter (daily activity sheet) and at the entrance to the restaurant. The main dining rooms, buffet, snack bars, pizza, etc are all included in your fare. If you have any questions, just ask the staff!

3. What is the cheapest way to buy drinks? There is only one way to buy alcohol - pay as you go. Drinks are the same price ship wide. There are "drink of the day" specials each day to enjoy (if you like what's on offer). There is a coffee card for 15 specialty coffee drinks during the cruise, a soda card and an unlimitied soda card which includes non-alcoholic frozen treats, milkshakes and sodas. Can be purchased in advance or onboard.

4. We are going over christmas is there a traditional christmas dinner? Yes. The ship will be decorated, Santa will pay a visit for the kids, and there will be a "traditional" Christmas dinner. It is also usually one of the formal nights for more glamour for the holiday. Very special evening. (We'll be on the Star Princess on the Hawaii sailing)

5. Is there a church service? Yes, there are usually church services, for most denominations. Also, carolling, etc.

6.Does the ship provide pool/beach towels? Yes, pool/beach towels are provided and you can get clean ones as often as you like.

Some people bring Christmas cards for the staff (waiter, room steward, jr. Waiter as a nice touch). Some people bring door decorations or room decorations to help celebrate the holiday. We know some who bring their stockings with those 3M hooks to hang in their rooms and have with the kids Christmas morning - nice touch. The ship will be festive - it's lots of fun.

Enjoy your sailing!!

Just to add to the response already provided, we were recently on the new Royal Princess and they did not have a special on the drink of the day .. in fact it wasn't even mentioned in the Princess Patter. That may have been a glitch being a new ship and the Maiden Voyage ... I'm not sure as some things are definitely changing.

As for services on board, generally a passenger comes forward and conducts services but having said that, I have been on a ship where the CD led services.

The Emerald is a nice ship so you should enjoy it ... the Piazza area has a nice Deli café where the food is included. And if you drink speciality teas and coffees such as capuccino or Latte, buying a coffee card will get you 15 at a discounted price ... but don't lose your coffee card as you probably won't get it back again.
