I am thinking to book my first cruise for my self and my fiancé for December 2014 and am really unsure on which cruise would best suit us both.. renee is 26 and I am 30, we both enjoy fine dining, adventure, socialising, fun in the sun etc etc.. I have hecked out most cruise lines on youtube but am still so unsure on which would suit us best..

OK...maybe I should wait for Dougo, a fellow Aussie who knows a *whole* lot more about the ships that sail in your area.

But, my guidelines for a first cruise are: not too long, not too far away from home, and not too expensive.

Since you're in Geelong, I'd take a look at Dawn Princess December 11, 2014: 5 nights from Melbourne to Burnie, Hobart, Port Arthur.

A first cruise is less about the destinations and more about the rhythms of the ship, and seeing whether they suit you.

And, despite the adverts, cruise lines don't offer "fine dining". They offer very good food served to a LOT OF PEOPLE, so can't compare with the best intimate land restaurants. Adventure is where you find it when you're on a ship full of a couple thousand others headed the same places. So, kick back, socialise, and decide whether cruising suits you, without making a huge commitment.

Seabourn might work for you. I believe they cruise australia and asia in december. Though we haven't taken a Seabourn cruise my wife and I are considering it - as we enjoy the smaller ships. Most recently on the Star Clipper. Onboard entertainment may not be as varied as on a larger ship.

Do not do Carnival. I went on my 1st cruise in July as a grad gift w/my then boyfriend now fiancé - he proposed on the cruise - & found that some things just weren't done right.

I've always been told that buffets are always avail. Nuh uh. Not on this cruise (Carnival Pride). They CLOSED all but 1 at 3 pm until 6 the only 1 avail. was pizza - 24 hrs. The decor had nudes everywhere on the walls & in the elevators, mind this is a FAMILY oriented cruise. Kids don't need to see that on the walls 20 feet long. A full "David" was on the top floor too. Rm service was quick sandwiches & salads type stuff only no steaks or larger entrees. Entertainment at nite was very lite. Only 1 live band & they had nites off. No food or entertainment avail. after like 11-12. Adult comedian was at 11:45 pm so we missed midnite buffet. Only the disco was avail. until late (like 1 am). My fiancé has been on 11 cruises says he won't do Carnival again. I loved the cruising & looking forward to booking another but NOT that line. He says Royal Carribean, Princess or Norwegian. Hope that helps! Good luck & enjoy what you pick.

I am a travel agent and I would recommend you look into Royal Caribbean. Go on Cruise Critic and check out the reviews. Read about the different ships and what they offer. The food and entertainment will be very good. There are lots of fun things to do on a Royal Caribbean cruise. You can also go to one of their pay restaurants to experience speciality dining. The cost is not much for the great dining experience. Cruising is great you can relax and just do nothing or you can be busy enjoying all the ship has to offer.
