costa cruises

Has anyone travelled recently on Costa Fortuna, and if so, what did you think of the ship, service, food, etc. We are looking at booking a cruise departing Barcelona on 19 September 2014 and travelling through Spain, Morocco and Portugal and then returning to Barcelona.

I may be speaking out of turn but for me the cruise line generally is a better indicator than one ship of the line.2 problems with Costa 1) too many smokers 2) too many multi-lingual announcements over PA that go on and on.They are working hard to put the Concordia disaster behind them and the prices are really attractive.

Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated. I mudt admit I do not like being around smoke ot smokers so that would tend to put me off.

I hope you haven't booked with Costa - we have just returned from one of their cruises and it was the worst cruise and holiday experience of my life. English speaking passengers are nobody's on these cruises and the service is non existent. Food is shocking and yes lots of smokers, smoking anywhere - including the lifts. Europeans tend to think electronic smoking is not really classed as smoking.

Have been on three Costa cruises and I have loved them. It depends what you are after though. I have gone for the itenary and not the cruise as a holiday. Their cruise from Venice and the Norwegian affords was fab. Off to the Baltics with Costa next week. The boat is too sleep only really. I found the food not bad either......

Perhaps it depends on whether a Caribbean or Med cruise. I have sailed twice on the Fortuna in the Caribbean and there is a definite difference in the clientele. Here the ship's currency changes from Euro to US$ and the clientele is mostly english speaking. The smoking area is very small, and not allowed everywhere (I think this is quite different on the Med cruises). I am somewhat allergic to smoke, but I could generally keep out of the line and they have enhanced the ventilation as well. I never went into the Casino, but that might be the only place with Euro for the machines and unrestricted smoking.

I enjoyed the tours and food, but then I have few to compare to. I did find the beef was poor quality, so ate other options such as guinea fowl, which was well prepared. I go as they have some of the largest dance floors in the Caribbean, and support those of us interested in ballroom dancing. I also enjoy the more cosmopolitan demographics.

The languages over the PA are reduced with English first. I did not find it a big deal.

Quite baffled by the negative reviews. Just returned from a fabulous cruise on the Fortuna. Lovely staff really going out of their way to be helpful, great food and entertainment. Yes they do charge a hefty amount for excursions, drinks etc but it's optional. Most ports offer a free shuttle to the city centre.

May I ask you where you cruised. We are thinking of Caribbean out of la romana in feb. reading so many negatives about Costa...I'm torn.
