I have just returned from the Ancient Wonders element of your cruise which included Instanbul, Lesbos, Athens, Santorini, Kusadasi and Marmaris.

Trips are expensive and we visited key sites independently.

Istanbul - we used the Tram T1 - cost was approx a pound. The tram runs every ten minutes and the stops are clearly labelled. The tram stop is approximately 10 minutes walk from the port.attractions easy to locate. We visited the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sopha, Grand Bazaar and Spice Market. You do have to pass through a number of touts selling the hop on - hop off bus but we found the key attractions easy to access using the T1. You do have to queue for the Blue Mosque and beware there are local touts offering to get you to the front of the queue for a charge. The Blue Mosque is free to enter. We were conned as we entered a man who told us he worked for the Mosque took us through, gave us information and then charged. Please also note that you do have to be covered from the head to below the knees for women although scarves are loaned to you on entry.

We hired the headphones at Hagia Sophia cost £5 each and was well worth it. We learnt so much and spent quite a bit of time there. From there we walked to Grand Bazaar which took 10 minutes and worth a look. We got the tram back to the Spice Market and then onto the port. We probably had the time to fit intthe palace but didnt as it was our first port so were anxious to get back in plenty of time.

Lesbos is pretty and quite a small island and there is easy to see independently. We visited the castle cost 2 euros, the cathedral and basically just explored.

Athens - we took the train. A day pass cost 4 euros and we got araound the city. Again all stations are clearly displayed. I would recommend you go to the Acropolis (cost 12 euros), first thing in the morning. We arrived approx 10.30am and could quite easily walk arouns. As we were coming down to exit, it was so busy as tours had arrived. We took the train to the Olympic stadium - honestly just not worth it. It takes for minutes and it is an unused stadium. Very little to see and there were about 10 people there,

We went to centre of athens and saw changing of guards.

Other guests recommended hiring a taxi - 100 eurs for 3-4 hours but they stated the drivers were so informative, took them to places you wouldn't see on a tour and no pressure for seeing sites. Just waited.

Santorini is beautiful. Take the bus to Oii which is the most amazing views. Again bus costs 1.60 euro takes 30 minutes but is worth it. Please note from the port you need to take the cable car up to santorini or walk up a couple of hundred steps or take a donkey ride. These steps are very slippy- I fell and still suffering!!

Kusadasi- We explored the area as we had previouly seen Ephesus. Wish we had done it again to be honest.

Marmaris - spent a little time at this port as we had been several times before. If you want to visit do take the time on the day you arrive as you do not leave the port until 9.30pm.

WE took Euros and turkisk lira but to be honest eorus is acceptable in most places but think you would need lira for istanbul. We had the drinks package on board but at £190pp at the time of booking was expensive, There are cocktail happy hours and spirits are approx £3.90 per drink. We have discussed whether it was worth buying the package since our return, but we spent very little on board thereafter. The package includes all soft drinks, coffee/tea in the bars and most drinks. We had the safe at £15 pw and paid £20 for late check out on the day of departure which held our cabin until 1.00pm.

Hope this helps and enjoy as we did very much .
