Terrible mattresses on Princess Cruises, will I sleep?

I was told that I may have made a terrible mistake booking a week long cruise on Princess. I was told that they have the worst Mattresses of any cruise ship. Instead of a pillow top mattress I am going to be forced to sleep on a foam pad that is rock hard. No comfortable pillow top beds like many of the other cruise ships. How can I sleep?

Is the mattress really going to be that hard?

Dear conversationist...I've been on three Princess cruises (10 or 12 days each) and found the beds to be quite acceptable. I don't recall any complaints from others who were with me. I really think you'll be comfortable.

I would say check out the mattress(s) as soon as you arrive in your cabin. If you don't like them and think you will have a problem sleeping, then ask your cabin steward to bring you another mattress or put a 2nd one on top of the one already there. We have generally had no problem w/ the mattresses except on our last cruise. Had I known that I could have requested another mattress, I would have done so. I read this somewhere & don't know if anyone has actually done this. My motto is nothing ventured nothing gained!

Is the Princess ship an older one? You might try asking your travel agent (if you booked w/ one) to find out about the mattresses for you. If you didn't use a travel agent, call the cruise line and ask about the mattresses. You may or may not get an answer. Worth a shot though.

I have been reading that a lot of the older ships are replacing their mattresses for more "plushy" ones.

One other suggestion for you. Go to www.cruisecritic.com and click open the "Boards" category. Scroll down to the "Roll Call" and look for your cruise line, ship and date of sailing. Post a question there and ask the same questions you posted here. Others that have sailed the ship you are going on can answer the question. You will have peace of mind b4 you leave home!

Good luck. Let us know what you found out.

Our office sells Princess constantly, and we have not had any complaints about the bedding, but I agree with the previous poster about checking both ahead of time and if you find it too hard, just ask to have another added pad. I can't imagin they will be as hard as many of the beds in Mexico, and the addition of a foam pad really helps. I would be interested in hearing how this all plays out!
