I think Air NZ use the earlier 777 -200 on this route and they do not have the space seat. We flew in one of these Auckland to hong Kong and were dissapointed. The rows were 3-3-3. Basically the same seat as ecconomy but with more leg room, and more recline. We had been upgraded on our flights and were pleased we hadn't paid the extra.
You need to check which aircraft they are using.
Are you just flying SYD/AKL? If so, PE is not sold on the TT routes.
But if you are on a 777 or 747 that normally offers PE then that cabin is offered to cattle class customers with status who book Works or Works DL seats or, sometimes nowadays, to those who are willing to pay extra for better seats.
Booking on AirNZ has become very complicated nowadays.
Yes just flying SYD/AKL (NZ104) and I saw from the seating plan that they did have the spaceseats. I would be willing to pay to get them - will ask at airport when we check luggage in. Not sure what kind of ticket I've bought other than it included luggage but yes you are right, it does seem very complicated! LOL
I don't have any status with ANZ but they have our Virgin Atlantic numbers in their system.Edited: 01 April 2013, 08:20
The 777-300's have the space seats. I thought all those aircraft were on the Auckland via LAX to LHR route. The 777-200 aircraft don't have space seats. However, I have been wrong befgore
Just occasionally AirNZ uses the 300s TT. Have been on them three times AKL/BNE. But usually the 200s are used with the awful 3-3-3 configuration in the PE cabin.
I wouldn't leave it to the airport to ask about the spaceseats - I doubt there would be any left. Did you book the flights yourself online? If so, you can go on and change your seats - it will tell you if any are available for extra cost. If you used an agent, ask them to find out for you.Edited: 02 April 2013, 05:15
Yes I booked online via the ANZ website. When we got notification of the change in plane (to the 777) I had to get our seats changed and I did ask about upgrading to PE then but was told I wasn't allowed to.
We've had hassle all along with trying to book seats we want on the ANZ site and have had to resort to phoning up and getting them book ones for us.
It always seems a hassle when there's a change of plane and that's on the AirNZ home site! I've had to resort to the phone myself sometimes.
If your TT flights are part of an international multi-trip tour this could complicate things.
But in any case I would ring and point out that it's not an upgrade to PE as that is not sold Trans Tasman. Just some seats are better than others and (this is very recent) you can pay extra for better seats on the plane with more legroom (PE) or exit rows etc.
I guess I'm lucky having access to the NZ (home) site but even on this one there are problems sometimes.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks for the advice. :)
This leg is part of a round trip from NZ to Australia - WLG > AKL > MEL then SYD > AKL. Our flights from Scotland to NZ are with Emirates.
I've gotten us into a row with just 2 seats (had to pay £10 more each though) so at least that is something although the only blessing is that its a relatively short flight so we can stand (just) putting up with sitting in cattle.
I'll maybe have another bash at the ANZ website and see if I can change there but not exactly holding my breath!
2 seats is certainly much better than a row of 3. But certainly see if you can change to space seats.
I remember that you mentioned you had booked to allow baggage. But are you booked in Works - ie that means seat+bag+meal? That is what is normally needed (at this end of the world anyway) to access those better seats although even then one needs to pay more.
Oh for the old days!
I was kind of hoping that food of some sort was included! Or is that not as standard with ANZ?
I know we have luggage of 23kg included but not sure what else.
