Aer Lingus DUB to LHR, BA LHR to IAD Baggage question

Hi. We're leaving Dublin on Aer Lingus on 1/02 into LHR T1 on 10/2, then will go to T5 for a BA flight to IAD. Is there anyway to get Aer Lingus To check our bags through to our BA flight so that we won't have to collect them at T1? Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks :)

Aer Lingus are not oneworld members and assuming these are separately ticketed flights you will need to collect bags and recheck in with BA at LHR - I hope you have allowed enough time for this transfer.

For flights from Ireland to UK then onwards by BA, Aer Lingus & BA do have an interline agreement so your luggage will be checked through if it's all booked as a BA itinerary

It depends. As noted in #2 BA and Aer Lingus do have an agreement for DUB/LHR flights. However, this depends on whether you're on one ticket or two. If on one ticket, double check when you drop your bags off and be sure that the final destination says IAD.

If you're on 2 separate tickets, you can ask but it's strictly up to the gate agents to make that decision. In that case, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst and leave yourself some extra time just in case they say no.

Thank you all! They are 2 separate tickets, as we decided to add Dublin to the end of our trip rather late in the game. Good to know that we might get lucky, but otherwise we should have enough time. Happy New Year!

"but otherwise we should have enough time." - I assume you realise the risk with separate tickets in that if your flight from Dublin is delayed or cancelled and you miss the BA flight you are simply a no show and will have to buy a new ticket.

The recommended connection time for a T1 to T5 connection is 90 minutes and you have to complete check in/bag drop 45 minutes before departure and clear security 35 minutes before departure - I hope you make it.

We have about 2 1/2 hours layover in London, and we have trip insurance, but hopefully we'll get through fine. Looks like there's a big storm heading for the East Coast of the US tomorrow evening, so we may get stuck in London anyway. Thanks all for your input, I really appreciate it. Off to enjoy our last day in London.
