Closing inactive threads after 12 months

I thought this was an automatic process.

A thread on the Ireland Forum that had last been posted on in December 2010 was reactivated this morning by a self-promoter.

We've had a number of other threads recently that were over the 12 months reactivated by either self-promoters or people that are trying hard to be helpful in terms of piggybacking onto existing threads etc but the piggybackers would be better served by opening a new thread because of market dynamics.

Is this a temporary glitch in the system or has the closing of inactive threads been abandoned?

Yes, it's the date of the last post that starts the clock on the 12 months.

The timing of "12 months" is pretty vague. It's definitely not 365 days. Sometimes it's 13 months or more. Here is one from Feb 6, 2011 that is still open: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g32340-i1419-k4224…

Six months was a good length of time.

Thanks everyone.

FFM - I looked again and you were right. My brain just merged all the posts of that promoter together and registered them as being yesterday. But there have been others recently and its quite frustrating.

Its particularly annoying when you have someone coming along in e.g. March 2012 asking for assistance for holidays in Summer 2012 and never getting back to say good or bad or thanks or whatever. Then someone else coming along in December and either asking another question of the OP or profering potentially redundant advice.
