Suggest New Model for Trip Advisor

If Trip Advisor wants well written, accurate reviews of properties that generate a readership and loyal following, then they should consider payment per review. .

As the are already receiving 11,000+ reviews each day from people who are quite happy to share their experiences with others I see no need for them to offer any incentives

Many of us also contribute to the destinations forums to assist fellow travellers as well

Unfortunately, quantity is not quality. Many posts simply consist of personal gripes, and are not of assistance to travelers.

If TA were to start paying for reviews, they would want something for their money. Like proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, a significantly longer minimum length (currently just 200 characters for hotel reviews, 100 characters for other reviews), and making sure to state lots of facts, not just opinions.

Tripadvisor Inc. currently sells for $105. per share on the NYSE. The company's revenue is built on the ads and bookings that accompany your reviews. If the company wants professional, concise, and factual reviews to go forward, then the company would be wise to consider another model other than the "free for all" type of forum.

Remember, there is no free lunch, and the hat you get is not suitable reimbursement.

If you are looking for suitable reimbursement, go elsewhere. If TA were to pay for reviews we would get reviews from professional writers and travelers. Plenty of those out there on the internet and other mediums. Nothing to say that they are any more factual than any other reviews. I like hearing what the "common man" has to say.

That is correct.

So when they are doing so well, why would they change it? Absurd business principle.

And if you are dissatisfied with the current model, why are you here?

The Indian version of Trip Advisor from time to time has a promotion with one of their airlines that gives Frequent Flier miles for TA Reviews. When that occurs, there is a raft of poorly written brief reviews that are pretty much useless followed by irate posts of "where are my miles, " when the guidelines state it will be a few weeks before they are awarded. It is a misguided useless idea on that Forum, but I do believe this new suggestion tops even that one for ridiculousness.. clearly the wrong motivation for participating in TA..

How much should TA pay per review - $1 per review would not be sufficient incentive for users to write a better class of review but would sufficient to incent the poor of the world to write their fantasies of what it would be like to stay in hotels and eat at restaurants.

According to the TA fact sheet "More than 150 million reviews and opinions from travelers around the world" any payment would cost huge amounts of money, open the floodgates for huge amounts of fraud and as a result destroy the value of the business.

TA would be mad to contemplate such a hair brained scheme.

if TA started paying for reviews how would they check the people doing the reviews?also the cost would be expensive and therefore they would have to start charging folk for using the website.the whole idea of TA is reciprocation and long may that continue

In the sea of reviews that flood Trip Advisor, scant few are well written, concise, factual, and actually interesting to read. I, for one, believe the time I spend composing a relevant piece of material of interest to the traveling public is worth something. Remember, you get what you pay for.
