They are just for recognition of your contributions. They have periodically offered tote bags to those at the higher levels. They have not said if they will offer rewards, etc, in the future. So for now, its mainly just recognition.

ha ha, It's a good question and your first one. However, you have inadvertently stepped in to a TA system and topic that stirs the emotions, in a variety of different ways. TA think we should have badges and stars, many users think they are dross.

From my point of view, it allows me to "see at a glance" what a user's history is. And I tend to come to some conclusions, right or wrong, from that.

but it was still in the 12 month life bracket preferred by TA and just inside the 6 month life suggested by the rest of us (well not in australia as it misses out by one day).
