friendly names

seems like this has caused a few incidences where more than one contributor can have the same screen name.

is this considered acceptable or is it a glitch?

No it is not a glitch. TA realized this when they set up the friendly name concept. It is the reason that now when you want to send a PM - you can not just put in the users name - but have to access their profile and hit the little envelope, or else reply to a previous PM.

Refer to this thread and TA_DanWs reply when the friendly names came out.

If you look at the profile of a person with a friendly name - in the address line you will see their screen name.

Raquel, I think what you say is all correct, but your link goes nowhere.

But I did find this person who has been a member since 2005. www.tripadvisor.ca/members-forums/screenname

You have to also pay attention to the different avatars.

And all of the "canned" avatars being used by many people. And some people change their avatars frequently... So sometimes that helps - but not always.

Indeed Lien I recall someone fairly recently "losing it" because a user, lets say "Michael A" posted something in a thread which contradicted something "Michael A" posted elsewhere and this person ripped into them, and it was two different users. :-)

I recall at least they had different avatars but if course it could have been they were the same, there aren't that many stock ones.

I didn´t know this I assumed if you picked a username that already existed it would not let you use it or give you alternatives as most forums do. Interesting, and probably answers a question that is currently being asked by someone. Thanks.
