Reviewer curses in Review, not taken down by TripAdvisor

A review was left that contained a curse word. In addition to not only cursing in his review, this individual also has started somewhat of a smear campaign on both our Facebook page and TripAdvisor. We tried to reach out to him over Facebook and he would not respond.

We reported the review to TripAdvisor and they came back and said that they looked over the review, and everything was fine. But if you read over the review, the reviewer said "what the hell"

Now, according to TripAdvisor's own review guidelines they state:

-Family-friendly - No objectionable language or images.

In defining what "family friendly" means, TripAdvisor says specifically,

No objectionable language or images, including but not limited to:

-Profanity

Now, if I had my 8 year old going around school saying "what the hell" I would most certainly not be okay with this and would very much consider this objectionable. Also, if I were to disagree with someone at my work place, or my boss, and said "what the hell" I would be admonished for saying so.

I am quite frustrated that TripAdvisor would completely disregard their own guidelines when this is clearly a black and white issue. Does anyone know how to escalate this issue further? It won't let me resubmit a report on the review.

Thank you, I appreciate your help in this matter.

Are you serious?

Hell is really not a swear word, curse word, whatever. Or is the Bible something that you object to as well?

I agree. I don't see the word as objectionable in any way, and I doubt that it fails the guidelines. I wonder if the complaint would be made if a five star review had included a line like 'Hell, that was the best steak I ever had'.

TheSocialStation, TripAdvisor has filters in place so that reviews or forum posts that contain swear words won't even be accepted for posting.

Obviously, TA considers "hell" to be acceptable. I grant you that I wouldn't want my 8-year-old going around saying it, but it is no longer considered objectionable in day to day conversation, as far as I know.

Pay attention to the TV shows on at the "8 o'clock" family hour and you'll probably hear it.

h-B, TA staff sometimes edit profanities without removing the review, if that is the only problem with the review. It appears that this happened to the review in question, because that's not what it originally read when the OP was posted.

The sentence before that one has the word "hell" properly spelled in it. I wonder if the author's original intent was to edit both instances in to "heck," and well ... just had a bad day after that :-) I
