Looking for warm beach February from St Louis

Looking to get away solo from family 3-4 nights. Pool and beach and warm. Just need to relax. Any suggestions? Doesn't have to be all inclusive. I would rather pay for good food instead of a lot of bad food.

A good starting point would be to share your budget and how far away you would be willing to travel. "Good food" is highly subjective, so you might want to share what this means - compare it to a restaurant chain you've eaten at, for example. If you are looking at February, airfare probably will dictate some of this. Have a look at www.kayak.com/explore to see what you might afford.

Looking around or less than $1,000 doesn't need to include food or beverage. Doesn't have to be fine dining but I have read many AI's are not that good. I'd rather choose where I eat when I get there. For hotels, I would expect to be at least the quality of a good Hilton. I really want a nice beach and pool to lounge and a heated pool would be wonderful. Somewhere that is close enough to get to restaurants and possibly shopping, I'm okay to take taxi for dinner and shopping.

I'm not sure if you can get there for $400-$500, but I'd look at Cancun, maybe San Juan, Puerto Rico. Maybe southern FL, but weather might be iffy.

I often travel solo to beach locations when it is cold at home, and based on my expeiences I think you face several challenges.

1) February is very close and is high seaon for warm weather trips, so options may be limited and/or above youe budget (supply and demand).

2) To get relably warm weather in February IMO, I think it is best to go further south (i.e., Carribean, Mexico). I have travelled seceral times to Florida in February, and some trips have been warm enough, but others have been cold. Even places like the Bahamas/Northern Caribbean region could be too cool in February.

3) I don't have any idea about airfare prices out of St, Louis, but I think you would be very lucky if you could find airfares during that period to the Carribean around $500 roundtrip. Cancun usually is a little cheaper, so as bk_11 suggested, you might want to see what prices are like to there. As a bonus, Mexcio also is much less expensive in terms of accommodations and food than most Caribbean islands. I like using the month long search function on the itasofware website to get any idea of airfare prices to a destination I am considering.

4) If you are looking to stay on the beach somewhere warm during February, that isn't going to be cheap either. Something at the quality level of a good Hilton on the beach is likely to be at least $250 (oonservatively) and up per night IME.

5) You may want to check out some last minute deals available through tour operators/packages/websites.. While a lot of these packaged vacations are for AI resorts, you may find some non-AI options, and it might help you with airfare if packages include charter air or commercial air that has been blocked out or purchased in advance. You might also be able to find some suggestions about maximizing your budget in the "Bargain Travel" forum: tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g1-i12290-Bargain_…

I hope you find something that works!

I appreciate the info. I have to play this by ear, looking to switch jobs and take a week off in between. I should have 3 weeks prior to make my arrangements. Realistically, my budget has moved to staying under $2,000 for AI. If possible, would prefer not to stay AI so I can choose my food choices. I really would like to stay somewhere that has nightly entertainment, ie shows ect.. since I will be staying by myself. I am looking at the apple and fun jet trips and will look for the last minute ones also.
