I'd like to thank the staff of Washington and Baltimore International Airports, American Airlines staff, along with the police force for their kind and humane assistance. They have changed my view of Americans and their hospitality for the better. May god continue to bless all. However, the people of Lastminute.com are blood sucking, soulless, financially motivated horrible people, whom I'd never ever recommend.
I am so sorry to hear your plight AndreCure, glad you are OK. I think this and the other damming reports in this forum echo my sentiments exactly about Lastminute.com despite the attempts of others on here to defend such a rip off shower. PLEASE OTHERS DO NOT USE LAST MINUTE>COM under any circumstances do so at your peril!! Safe uneventful travels to all readers.
My experience with Lastminute.com is horrendous, I would advice to keep well clear of this outfit.
We took them to small claims and unfortunately lost, we are rather annoyed by the old judge who did not seem to be able to retain much information, but anyway even he admitted (I believe) that lastminute.com rating of a hotel as 'objectively' 5 star, was not correct, you would think that this misrepresentation would make the contract voidable, but not according to British Justice.
Lasminute.com even send us a cancellation confirmation , later retracted, but that was an 'error' the judge said, which did not count even though unilateral error does not affect the validity of contractual actions., go figure.
A Consumer Unfriendly judge in my opinion, I am not an expert, only done business law and jurisprudence in university.....
Why do i get the impression that big business just rule the place nd laws dont matter ? must be my ignorance , surely..
I and my family will stay well clear of lastminute.com and their parent company travelocity.com.
Another bitter taste from British justice and Big Business. Yep, the legal system being what it is, if you want an easy life avoid sharks. It can be costly and impossible to find redress.
If you are looking for a bargain online travel agencies like Lastminute, expedia and the like are fine. I have used these companies multiple times in the past with out problems as I research the hotels and service provider. Always Remember these online travel agencies act like giant supermarkets selling other companies/suppliers/principles products and dont really sell their own.
This simply means things like delays or hotels bads service, even though annoying are not their fault.
If you are looking for a holiday experience where the entity selling you the holiday is the liable party seek out a niche specialist who is a tour operator not a travel agency. Their margins are higher therefore the price is higher but you will find their knowledge of the product is better along with the service level.
I hope this helps
DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!! I can not recommend at all. We just booked a holiday with them last night, got confirmation of order and money was taken out of our account.
This morning, they decided to increase the price of the package by GBP 97.04. When we asked to explain how this could happen they offered us a full refund if we didn't want to pay more for a holiday that was already booked. No further explanation, just a few "Nothing we can do" phrases...
Do not book with lowcostholidays.com or holidays.lastminute.com if you actually want to go on the holiday you booked and paid for without extra charges creeping up on you. NEVER AGAIN!!
Awful company - when booking a hotel I got a message after taking all of my payment details which said 'oops there has been a problem with this booking, we have not taken any money, try again later'. I tried again and got the same message - guess what? The next day two lots of money had been taken out. I am still trying to get it back. They are a disgrace.
I am about to put a review everywhere i possibly can to warn other people.
I feel that its a case of WYSIWYG with these websites. I have used lastminute.com many times around the world for hotels, restaurants and entertainment but only domestic travel. I've never had any problems dealing with the company itself. The hotels I've used thru Lastminute have varied from absolutely superb to rip-off flea pits.
The airline industry is extremely competitive and if a deal sounds too good to be true - it probably is! If you get a flight for half price don't be surprised when you get stranded, the food's crap, the TV doesn't work or the customer service is non-existent - that's why it's half price - duh!
There's a reason companies/restaurants advertise on these sites and it's usually because either they are either in financial trouble, charge too much, produce crap product or don't want or need return customers. The trade-off for buying cheap is that you increase the risk of being burnt - live with it and do your homework on other sites, or don't do it.Edited: 30 December 2012, 13:21
My sister and i booked a hotel with lastminute.com We called and booked a hotel room for us 2 and 2 children for a xmas treat for our daughters. We asked for a family room in central or west london and were offered the novotel or the holiday inn regents park we opted for the regents park as my sister stayed here before when she was about to have her baby in the portland so we knew where it was. When we arrived we parked in the ncp underground and went to reception only to be told we were int he wrong hotel after 1/2 hour searching for it. We called last minute and they were extremly un sympathetic and told us we need ot go to the hotel we booked until they listened to the conversation as you didnt believe you made the mistake! Thank god u record calls is all i can say so we cancelled our evenings plans of a show and dinner and headed up to north london holiday inn golders green 1/2 hour away and no hope of coming back into central london for the evening. so in true rough it style we ordered pizzas and sat in a basic room in a 2 star hotel in amungst boarded up houses no where near where we planned and asked to be booked for the night. Oh and to top it off i got charged £10 by the ncp after the hotel refused to validate my parking ticket. weekend of fun ruined! Last minute.com couldnt give a @@@@ about us they are the middle man who like to hide when their team go wrong and hope the hotel sort it but the hotels certainly dont care as its not their fault so the customer always looses out
Fionag defending them...What an idiotic review. Why would you telling people who have used a booking company and then been let down to go and pay more for a service that is just a basic service be of any help what so ever??? I suspect you own a small booking company who charge extra for advise on where to book?? Whoever you book for if they get it wrong your going to complain and if they are a large company they are bound to get it wrong just by the sheer volume of bookings they do. What I am asking for is if their staff get it wrong they need to take responsibility for them. Your advise is neither helpful or well informed!Edited: 30 December 2012, 21:47
Bit worried about this thread! It seems to have been captured. Although the strong criticism of the operation of the UK Lastminute site may be valid - sounds like their call centre has serious staff training issues, I am concerned at the number of vitriolic one-off posters on that issue and very little on BUDGET TRAVEL which is what it is supposed to be about!
