G Adventures reviews

Hello, just wanted to have reviews regarding this company G Adventures, http://www.gadventures.com, that a friend told me (never experience traveling with them) and I wanted to have more feedback before taking them in consideration. I really appreciate it.

I travelled with G last May on the Southern Thailand Soujorn trip and it was honestly the best trip I've ever had!! It was a basic Yolo tour so I knew not to expect luxury hotels etc but was genuinely surprised at the high standard of accommodation!! Tour guide could not have been better was very knowledgable about his country but also socialised with the group at night and by the end it really felt like we were travelling with friends we had known for years!! Adventure travel/backpacking is 100% not for everyone! There will be people on the trip who get on your nerves at times, or unexpected problems along the way... But that is why it's an adventure!!! Also for me I can only take 2 weeks off work at a time so a condensed itinerary where we get to see a lot of different places in a short time is ideal!!! If you want to meet like minded travellers and have all the stress taken out of travelling in a new country then G is for you!!!!

Hi there, I recently booked a trip of a lifetime with G Adventures and have found them very professional to deal with in the main. Unfortunately however, I had to cancel my trip due to very unfortunate personal circumstances. Having had it verbally confirmed that I would receive a refund of my deposit I have been finding it incredibly difficult to speak to anyone in authority to have explained why this hasn't been forthcoming. I was assured my card would be refunded within 5 working days and nearly 2 weeks after my initial conversation I am still waiting. Also, when I today chased again to a lady called Caroline in their London office (who kept placing me on hold to discuss my request with a colleague) she REFUSED to pass my call on to a senior colleague when I wished to escalate my complaint. Apparently her colleague 'Cassie' was 'un-available' to take my call......hmm(?) she was available to Caroline to speak to whilst I was on hold but completely un-willing to speak to me???? The second part of their mantra is '*Lead Service' I would argue that this isn't entirely accurate!! Was looking to re-book again in the future - but there lack of helpfulness verging on plain arrogance is really putting me off dealing with them again in the future. :(

WE have been traveling with gadventures to Thailand/Vietnam?Cambodia,, India/Nepal, Peru, Galapagos Island, Africa, Costa Rica, Greek Island sailing over several years. Some were "comfort" trips, some basic. We in our late 60s and found those trips safe and exciting. When you travel third world countries, dont' sweat the small stuff. But the guides at G make sure that you have safe experiences (food, environment) and get the local vibes. Planning Argentina with them next.

We recently took to consecutive tours with G adventures; Peru and the Galapagos land tour. These were independent budget-type tours. For the record I have booked with 4 other tour companies in the last 20 years including Contiki which is very budget to a completely privately guided Globus tour. G was the WORST of all of them. The booking process was a nightmare. It ended up costing us an extra $400 per flight because it took them 10 days to guarantee our trip. Then we had to pay $300 for yellow fever vaccine and appt because they didn't tell us if we reversed the order of our trip we would need to get the vaccine. On the tour it was clear to see that we were treated sub-par b/c we were with G. At all the hotels we got the worst rooms until we complained, I mean rooms with serious problems like sewage smells and no air conditioning. To me this is indicative of the tour company when the hotel knows they can jerk around the customers of the tour company.

We paid for transfers and only 2 of the 6 arrivals we had was met by a tour person. Once we went up to the taxi desk and they said the person left b/c our flight was late but sent us to the hotel. Once again we had to ask the taxi desk to find this out. I went to complain when the last g rep just dropped us off at the last hotel and when we asked how we were getting to the airport she said we had to figure it out ourself. She said she would call us back after checking with the office about paying for our transfers, she never called us back.

The information the tour company provided before we left was so inadequate that it cause us much frustration throughout the tour. We tried to ask questions ahead of time and either they wouldn't answer them b/c we had a travel agent or they gave us the complete incorrect answer which we found out on the tour.

G only appears to be doing fine when everything goes well and you have no questions. Anyone who is any kind of seasoned traveler knows they are a rip off and you'd be better off going it your own b/c that's pretty much what you're left to do anyway. We figured most of it out ourselves. The worst part was being treated sub-par because we were with G at all hotels and tours, this can only be the case because they allow it.

Pick a different company or book your own hotel and tours, you'd save a bunch of money and get much better service.

Was on the worst experience of my life in Cambodia and Laos with G Adventures. The trip itself was great but I was shouted at and bullied in public by the CEO Jack while in a restaurant. We had another week of the holiday to go and both myself and my husband had an awful time because of him. His aggression towards us left me in tears.

The trip itself would be amazing providing you had a different guide. This experience would leave me fearful of ever travelling with G Adventures again.

Westrees - Unfortunately I also had to cancel a trip with g. I believe your deposit is a lifetime guarantee so, instead of refunding it to your card, it is held in your name and taken off the cost of any future trip you take with them. Most deposits are non-refundable so I've always thought it was a good deal. Cancellation is really something which should be claimed on your travel insurance so if you want the money back pick up with your insurance company.

I used my lifetime deposit to go on a trip to America last year(2years after my cancellation) We had a great time and I'd recommend gadventures. It is a lot more expensive than doing it yourself but you are paying to be part of a group and have things organised for you. As others have mentioned though make sure you read the trip notes before you go to make sure the trip is for you. We had a couple of people complain and, tbh, I believe they hadn't read the notes so had signed up to something different than they were expecting. It caused a bit of a stir among our group but customer services were great - they addressed the original complaint which pleased the people who raised it and also made sure the rest of the group were happy. Our CEO also worked really hard - they were up before everyone else every morning and never went to bed until everyone else had. They were working crazy hours every day and went out of their way to help people with anything and everything they requested. Our CEO drove all over the place shipping people back and forth on our free days to make sure we all saw what we wanted. They even secured accommodation for some of our group after the trip had ended which, IMO, is going above and beyond. Nothing was too big a request. In our experience they definitely care even after they have your money.

Between my friends and I we have used G to travel; USA, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, India and Brazil - we've never had a bad trip. Just read the notes before you book!

My wife and I are hovering around 60 and booked Gadventures trip around the Golden Triangle India. We recently have done cruises and tours of Europe. We were cautious about India as it had been described as an experience rather than a holiday. This is probably not far off the mark but the tour was faultless and the tour guide excellent. He made full use of our time taking us to all kinds of places as well as the main tourist attractions. Only one hotel was worth complaining about and that was a less than clean toilet/shower room. The hotels were between adequate and pretty good. They may not always be in the best part of cities but we went out with the tour guide(to restaurants) and never felt threatened or in any danger. They do more than it says on the tin!
