Expedia credit card fraud - DO NOT BOOK with Expedia

Beware of booking on Expedia. I have just spent the better part of a day shutting down my credit card accounts because I was defrauded by a customer service agent imposter for Expedia. Expedia refused to do anything about this or even take it seriously. Their information online has been hacked. When you call customer service you are talking to a hacker. Be very careful - do not provide any credit card information to Expedia.

Far far more likely is that your home computer or mobile device has been compromised. If an industry giant such as Expedia has been hacked, the whole world would hear about it. And at this point, there's not a peep

I was thinking a fraudulent site posing as Expedia. You really have to be careful before you click on a link from Google or any other search engine.

Or a scam email that the OP responded to - with personal information. When I get an email, I do not click any links in the email, I log-in through the website directly.

Yes, there are several possibilities that could explain what happened. I would say that Expedia being hacked would be at the bottom of the list. It's such a big company it would indeed be global news, just as KVE said.

Have you reported the matter to the police and your credit card provider? Fraud, even if by credit card, is still a criminal offence.

I can confirm that's true. I never enter any info about credit card into e-mail or any other source except official web-site.

I've just got a notification about some fradulent attempts to pay with my US$ credit card, which I used for 3 weeks only 1 year ago,and the service that did that according to my bank accountant is Expedia. And yes, 1 year ago I've booked a flight with Expedia, exposing my card to them.

And tight now my email is full of Expefia advertisement for the last two days....

Canceled the card.

Don't use the service, they obviously employ shady staff.

You can confirm nothing about the previous instance - unless you know the person who posted. Each case is typically very different. What you can confirm is that *something* has happened to your card that seems similar to a previous claim

Did you use the card for anything else one year ago?
