With British airways now resuming flights to Iran, it's now much easier to visit this wonderful destination from the UK.

I thought it's helpful to write about my recent Iran trip experience here.

I spent 10 days in Iran visiting Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd and Shiraz on a tour operated by an Iran-based tour operator (Iranian Tours : www.iraniantours.com) which was recommended to me by a friend working at a European diplomatic mission in Tehran. The tour price was much better than those offered by UK-based operators. The booking process and communication with the company was straight forward and professional. Landed in Tehran, I was welcomed by a representative and started the tour next morning. There were about 12 people from different countries in the group guided by a very knowledgeable guide on a land trip starting in Tehran and ending in Shiraz over 10 days. We were booked in good hotels conveniently located for visiting the highlights and town centres. The program was well planned covering many interesting sites and activities, yet not exhausting. We were offered to try a comprehensive selection of Persian cuisine for lunches during the tour. Visa procedure was a bit slow which was okay as I had booked the tour far in advance. However, we were told the visa could be only issued within few weeks prior to tour departure. I took Turkish Airlines for flying to Iran via Istanbul which was very good, although a non-stop flight would be better which was not an option for me then. The only problem was an obvious traffic disorder in Iran which made me feel insecure on the first days. However, Iranian drivers seem to feel confident within this system as I didn't notice any major incidents during this 1000+ miles journey.

I highly recommend visiting this great destination, if you are into culture and history.

Peter B,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like you had a nice time in Iran. I hope you are able to find the right hotel, restaurant and attraction listings so that you can provide reviews (w/pics) for the places you visited. You may want to also post some of your experiences on the Iran TripAdvisor forum as well. This is where fellow travellers seeking information about this destination will likely be spending their time researching. Here is a link if helpful.

Thanks for the useful information. You reminded me of my trip to Iran two years ago. It was wonderful and I'm planning for another trip next month. I am in touch with a number of tour operators. I also contacted Iraniantours after seeing your post, and have found them prompt and informative with competitive prices.

As promised, here is my recent Iran report :

I was in touch with several Iranian tour operators for arranging my 2nd trip to Iran in November. I found IranianTours' prices competitive and liked their way of answering my questions and concerns in regard to seeing as much as possible during a limited time I had for my holiday.

I started with a group tour operated by IranianTours lasting for about a week and then continued on a private program. The group was not too big (9 persons including me) and was guided by a fab guide named Siamak with an outstanding historical knowledge. The group tour ended in Shiraz, but I and another group member continued to visit Susa, Shustar, Kermansha, Hamedan, Zanjan and Gazvin. We were accompanied by a guide-driver appointed by the tour operator and stayed at hotels recommended by the tour operator.

I can confirm Iraniantours.com as a professional and flexible tour operator. I had a great time in Iran and looking forward to return someday.
