hotel for disabled person in Valencia, spain

I'm looking for a hotel to visit with a very disabled friend, She needs a room with ensuite with a shower with no step - a wet room really - and grab rails by the lavatory. Many hotels say "wheelchair access" but that just means a lift and no steps to the restaurant, and that isn't quite enough for us. If possible we'd like to be in the town centre.

Would be grateful for any recommendations on this, and also any general information on facilities for disabled people in Valencia

In general Spain is reasonably disabled friendly. Most hotels do have adapted rooms, but if your friend needs specialist equipment you need to contact them. There are a number of websites that specialise in disabled holidays. They tend to offer expensive holidays, but you could look through their information and then book the trip independently.

Hi liz;

A number of years ago my wife called a hotel directly and asked if they were “handicapped accessible” ? The hotel replied with an enthusiastic, YES !

Fortunately, I used Google Street View beforehand. When what we were told and what Street View showed didn’t match, we went to double check in advance. It was a good thing that we did, as my father in his wheelchair could NOT be accommodated by that hotel – period.

When we arrived I immediately noticed that there were steps leading to the entrance. We went inside and were told that they were “handicapped accessible” because they had grab bars around the toilet and in the shower. None of the rooms were on the main floor and there was no elevator...just stairs. How is THAT “handicapped accessible” ?

PLEASE...call and speak with the prospective hotel's manager and ask very specific questions. Be sure to have a look at the "Accessibility Checklist for Hotel Accommodation" at the top of this forum for some ideas.

Best Regards
