I am curious where is the best place to look for a travelling buddy? Do you have any ideas?
while you are travelling! at hostels, on the road... there is always some else out there travelling alone too. you meet way more interesting people that way too. beats facebook for the definition of 'friends'
For me the best way to find traveling partners/companions has been to start asking questions on the forums on this web site for the places that interest you. You will be surprised at the number of women that are out there traveling on their own!!
You will find travel companions on http://www.companion2travel.com , http://www.travelbuddy.com Try and revert with your experience.
neither link worked for me.
While u travel, i met great people while doing 4-5 day excursions, all ages and status. No buddy for a whole trip yet but consider different sex as long as u have everything clear between u.
The idea of travelling with a stranger met on the internet seems at best daft and worst dangerous. People find travelling even with friends to be full of often unwelcome revelations.
You could find yourself travelling with someone who thinks it a good idea to bring a bit of cannabis into a country with severe penalties for doing so. Do you really think that the police will believe you knew nothing about it?
You could be lucky and have a great time, or you could find yourself alone in a shared hotel room with and unpaid bill and your passport and money missing.
Meeting fellow visitors or locals for coffee/lunch in a public place is fine, anything more is running more risk than you might want to if you took some time to think about it.
i think the best way is to travel solo and meet people who are also traveling on their own whether male or female, thus, no complication...if the two of you decide to eat somewhere together, just split the bill. i agree with Leagle about actually traveling together with someone you don't know...better to hookup or meet people who have their own arrangements separately from yours while you're on your own.
One way to find a traveling partner is via the http://www.meetup.com/ web site which allows you to search for travel groups, or single groups, or any type of group that interests you. I have subscribed to ski groups and singles groups on this site and have met new people. Another option for finding a travel companion is to contact me - I'm a 49yo single guy who enjoys travel! :)

Thank you for the link you posted. I can see that it could be useful for a traveller looking to meet people during their travels.
I totally agree with the general jist here of traveling alone and meeting up with people along the way.
There are dangers to traveling with someone else - even if you don't hook up with an ax murderer, drug runner or thief.
There's the 'limpet' - they follow you everywhere like a lost puppy - even into the loo....
Then there's the 'filofax' - they end up organising every moment of your holiday for you.
Or there's the 'scheduler' - they decide what you are going to do and you get no say in the matter and end up spending all your time in fishing tackle stores when you would rather be at the museum.
What about the 'walking cyclone'? You like to keep things neat and tidy but you find yourself sharing a room with someone who turns the room into the aftermath of a hurricane within minutes of walking through the door.
Or the opposite - you like to be laid back and relaxed on your holidays but your newly acquired traveling companion insists on making the bed before you have had a chance to get out of it.
Worst of all is the traveling companion who insists on using you as their personal ATM asking you to 'get this one' and assuring you that they will pay you back as soon as they can get their ATM card to work - but somehow they lose track of how much they owe you and their card always seems to be back in the room.
Go alone and have fun with the people you meet along the way.
