UK Phone in SE Asia / Nepal and surrounding countries

Hi,

I have gone through some of the postings on this site re taking a phone overseas, and i will be taking my vodaphone Samsung S2 with me. I have had my contract closed and moved it to PAYG, as i want to use local SIMS if possible.

Now, if my understanding is correct, i need to get the phone unlocked, which i can pay someone to do, or i can google? and then i am good to just buy PAYG inserts in country?

the alternative i am also pondering is using say an internaitional SIM card like ToggleSim?

any advice would be appreciated, i have also posted on the tech forum

thanks

Mark

I see that you've posted in the Travel Gadgets and Gear forum, which I think can answer your post much better. In addition, you might want to take a look at the first few pages in the Business Travel forum or do a search on the flyertalk forums.

As I understood you phoned your supplier to have your phone unlocked. Could have changed though as it is some time ago.

I have seen it suggested for some countries that buying a cheap phone & sim locally can work in your favour. I guess the problem in the last couple of year is the amount so apps and info stored on our own sophisticated phones may be needed on a long trip
