Things to do in Kuala Lumpur for a middle aged couple??

Partner and I want to stopover in KL for a few days, and would like some info on what is there to do and see after the Towers. Also info on a great gay-friendly hotel in the city centre area?

Thanks for any information.

Lots of standard things to do in KL - we are in our 50's and its a fav place to stop for a few days.

do a google search for uptopia asia - a great website with lots of info on where to go, and stay

we normally stay at the Interncontinetal - subway next door

The Petronas Towers are worth a visit - as is the shopping center at the base.

KL and Malaysia generally is one of my favourite destinations.

I dont seek out 'great' hotels but reviews on here or any of the hotel booking websites should help. Tips. Butik Bintang is a very tourist populated area, and a bit more upmarket. Chinatown gets crowded but convenient location for many attractions. Any hotel with tower views is a bonus.

Things to see about KL. Both KL Tower and Petronas Twin Towers (pre book necessary for observation level @ PTT). Batu Caves. Lake gardens (bird and other parks). Central Market (lots of tourist shops. good reasonable priced food hall. and can be somewhat cruisy in the vicinity) has more character than modern shopping malls. The historic centre around Dataran Merdaka a short walk from CM is interesting.

Nightlife is more aimed at younger and the city has numerous saunas (utopia as advised lists most).

Good transport options. Underground and monorail serve most areas of city. A number of night markets on various locations.

Accomodation near a station is handy, especially to avoid high heat longer walks, or getting caught in a late afternoon rain storm.

Easiest way to meet local guys is place a travel plan advert on gayromeo (aka planetromeo) website. One of the most popular. Guarantee a fan club before you arrive.

With a few fays, an overnight visit to Melaka would be feasible. Couple of hours by bus. Easily explored. Sat night market is very popular

Ipoh to the north by train is worth considering. Big Chinese influence. Probably better seen with local friend/guide.
