Trains are showing on the Trenitalia website for Lecce to Gallipoli; several per day this week.

Not likely to change much after the summer timetable change...

Which website did you see your Bari to Lecce train on?

J.

Probably yes. Train schedules are pretty static.

"Well, if they were quite the same times there would be no reason to change the schedules twice an year."

They don't change the schedules twice a year. Trenitalia just publishes them in half year increments. Railway schedules are planned years ahead, since a good railways first makes the schedule, and then modifies the railway to fit the schedule.

Many railways have already a pretty good idea what their schedule is going to be decades from now.

I never even knew there was a Gallipoli in Italy. Only know the WW1 battle site in Turkey. Learned something today!

But as others said there seem to be frequent trains to Lecce. Just buy tickets at the station as they're all Regionale so no advantage in buying early and they can't sell out.

A minor note that the trains between Lecce and Gallipoli are actually operated by a company called Ferrovie del Sud Est whose website is https://www.fseonline.it

I see that today trains on that line are being delayed because of a broken down train.

Their current downloadable timetables are valid only until 2nd March. Go to https://www.fseonline.it/s/oraripdf?language=it and click the red button under Programma ferroviario Lecce for the trains around there, under Bari for that area.

While FSE is operated as a separate system, it was taken over by the Italian state in 2016. For the last few years its trains and buses have appeared on the Trenitalia website https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html which is in English, while the FSE website is now Italian-only.

FSE's old-fashioned train time tables are also available from Trenitalia, through to June 8, for those very few people who still wish to use such things. Go to https://www.trenitalia.com/content/dam/tcom/allegati/trenitalia_2014/informazioni/orario_digitale/RegionaleBasilicata_Puglia_light.pdf
