Rail tickets for daytrips in France

We will be in Narbonne at the end of June 2024 and want to take a day trip to both Carcassonne and Montpellier.

Is it necessary to book now? will prices increase closer to time?

I am finding prices of around 20 -30 Euro per trip?

Thanks for any advise

Check the prices for tomorrow and then for as far in advance as you can and you'll probably have your answer

You want one of these https://www.visit-occitanie.com/en/discovering/wonderful-journeys/occitanie-rail-tour-the-fabulous-voyage-by-train/ for the cheapest options.

But note that the pass only entitles you to travel on the local TER trains, not on TGVs or Intercities.

TER (Regional Express Trains) do not have reservations and, barring the odd promotional fare or tourist pass as mentioned, the fares are always the same. The only thing to watch out for is that if you buy your ticket on line you must travel on the day you chose.

Most trains between Narbonne, Carcassonne and Montpellier are classed TER. Those that are TGV or Intercités must be reserved.
