We recently had an excellent trip to the Catalan Coast with Treyn. I cannot fault the tour manager and everything worked very smoothly. I can recommend them and if you send your case on ahead you don't even have to lug that on and off trains!!
We can recommend the Catalan Coast trip with Treyn - Tour Manager excellent! Advice paying the extra to have luggage sent on again - making getting on and off trains a breeze!!
On our Lake Garda trip the Tour Manager (Byron) was excellent, speaking good Italian and French. Even though he had never taken a group on this tour before, he had obviously researched the route really well. Treyn need to be aware that some of their Tour Managers are not up to the job!
Margaret, I hope you have notified Treyn about this?
We had such a fantastic trip which we thought was professionally run, it is such a shame to hear this. I would not hesitate recommending Treyn.
This is a shame, we saw an enticing trip in the Sunday Times magazine today to the Dordognee and Lot. The hotel in Souillac gets good reviews but the lottery of which tour manager you get with Treyn puts us off.
Any trip with Richard Crangle as Tour Manager is recommended.....
We returned from a Treyn holiday to Tuscany and Venice last Thursday. This was our first experience of this type of holiday, and we really enjoyed it. Our tour manager was Iaine Russell Jarvie, and he was very efficient, being a seasoned traveller himself, and fluent in French and Italian. He could be a little "martialling" at times, but he ensured that arrangements went smoothly.
This type of holiday is not an altogether relaxing one - toting of luggage on and off steep trains, up and down stairs while changing platforms - but if you are capable enough, it's a great way to travel and meet new friends. We're seriously thinking about the Catalan trip next June!Edited: 24 June 2013, 15:07
My wife and I have just returned from a Treyn Swiss All Inclusive holiday. Although we are both fit, getting to our destination at Wilderswill, near Interlaken, and getting home again were truly exhausting. Yesterday's return journey involved five separate trains and a bus transfer in Paris -- plus a Tube trip when we got back to London -- and it was very hard work with our modest luggage. About a third of those in our group were over 80 and had no idea the "holiday" would involve such physical effort both on the to-and-from journeys and on some of the excursions from Wilderswil.
The accommodation at our hotel, the Alpenblick Chalet Hotel, was very hit and miss. Some in our group got apartments, while others got tiny, crowded rooms. We and several other guests demanded to be moved to more spacious rooms where we could at least put our luggage down. Also, the free WiFi was available only in parts of the hotel.
On the plus side, the food and the service at the Alpenblick Hotel were excellent, and our Treyn tour guide, Jon Harrison, was very well organised and ever-patient, even in the most stressful of circumstances.
But be warned, this is not -- repeat NOT -- a holiday for anyone with health problems or who is beginning to feel their age!
Having just returned from a Treyn holiday to Stresa & Lake Maggiore in Italy,my wife & I cannot speak to highly of this company. Our tour manager,Terry, was second to none, going that"extra mile" to ensure that everone's holiday was special & stress free.
The hotels were all good, train connections all worked & train seating was all pre booked.
This was the first holiday of this type that we had taken, but it was memorable for all the right reasons.
Hopefully this won't be our last holiday with Treyn.
Thanks to all concerned & in particular Terry for making it easy & enjoyable.
My wife and I have recently returned from our first Treyn Holiday going to Rosas, Spain, staying at the Hotel Mediterraneo Park, 4 Star. May 4th 2013. Main reason for using this option - wife hates flying! The train travel experience is only for those who like trains and the style of travel. Handling your own luggage constantly, listening for instructions of where and what to do next. Our tour manager, Richard, was excellent.
We actually lost one of our party on the section from Paris down, but Richard could not have done anymore than he did, being most concerned. The lost member rejoined at our hotel some 36 hours later.
Richard was generally concerned of our enjoyment and participation throughout the holiday, and I must say
also that the hotel was excellent throughout.
On reflection we felt that our holiday was well organised and most enjoyable, but if you do not like train travel, and humping your own luggage, then go by plane or ship.
No complaints from my wife and I!
So sorry to read of all the bad experiences with this company. We have just got back from a wonderful holiday to the Dordogne and Lot. Everything was 'spot on'. The hotel was only 3star so we weren't expecting too much but we did get a great little hotel with lots of character and friendly staff. Julie, our tour manager was lovely. So helpful, friendly and she organised everything so well including extra trips on our free day. We will certainly be booking with them again.
