Help with routing Bern to Colmar

Hi again people

I'm having a little bit of trouble with finding trains on a Sunday in August for a Bern to Colmar trip. Both SBB and SNCF websites say its not possible, but DB suggests there is a route but it involves the last leg from Breisach to Colmar has to be done by bus. The BonjourLaFrance website suggests there is a reasonable connection via Basel, but that it doesn't run Sundays.

Anyone have any better suggestions than the train/train/bus combo?

Times for August will not yet be available, as tickets are not sold more than 3 months ahead. Use a date in the next 3 months for your planning: the services will be much the same in August. You will see there are plenty of trains.

Trains between Basel and Colmar run every 1 or 2 hours on Sundays eg 0622, 0821, 1021 then more often. These are regional trains so there is no reason whatsoever to worry about booking in advance. Just head for Basel on a Swiss train and buy your ticket from there to Colmar on the day.

And you need the Basel SBB station not the Basel Bayerische station.

Thanks everyone. So there's no great discounts to be obtained by paying in advance?

And Alfred- great town Chur, we had a few very enjoyable days there a few years ago when travelling on the wonderful Galcier Express!

Regional trains in France eg Basle - Colmar have mostly fixed fares currently €13,70 on the direct trains.

Some regions offer cheaper fares at less busy times but I didn't find any on this route.

Bern to Basel SBB is CHF 39 (approx. EUR 32).

The only route where you can save if buying in advance is the one via Breisach. You can get Bern to Breisach from EUR 19 (you can buy at earliest 92 days in advance). The bus Breisach to Colmar is EUR 5,20 (you pay with the bus driver).
