Most straightforward is to take the RER commuter train to Paris Nord then see www.thalys.com for trains to Brussels.

Alternatively, take a TGV from CDG to Lille Europe - see www.capitainetrain.com for times and prices and then a Thalys train from Lille to Brussels. That avoids going into the heart of Paris and the transfer between trains is easier at Lille. Probably the way I would do it.

Seat reservation is compulsory on all except RER trains and some good discounts are available for reservations made well in advance. However the very cheapest tickets are non refundable and non exchangeable, so best leave a good margin between alleged flight arrival time and train time. At least 2 hours, even if you can be 100% certain of an on time landing.

(on the Capitaine train website the departure station is Aéroport-Paris-Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle CDG)

Depending on time of day, there may also be a direct TGV from CDG to Brussels Midi. Per the schedule posted on the DB site for the date I checked, there are several direct trains a day that do not require a change at Lille.

I thought there were several direct trains between CDG and Brussels (Midi), and furthermore that these could be included as an add-on sector to an airline ticket (Brussels-Midi even has its own three-letter Airport code).

You're right. There are several direct trains each day. I perhaps didn't scroll down the page enough as they only leave generally about once every two hours. Apologies.

"these could be included as an add-on sector to an airline ticket"

That would depend on the airline flown. Not all airlines have code share agreements with SNCF. For the ones that don't, it's easy enough to go on Capitaine Train and purchase the tickets. Be sure to leave yourself enough time to clear customs and immigration.
