July / August / September Honeymoon

My fiance and I are trying to figure out the best honeymoon destination given our criteria. We have no more than 2 weeks available, and we'd be willing to island hop. I'll rank our priorities from 1 (low) - 5 (high). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Food - 5

Night time entertainment (we're not into clubs, but all types of cultural events, shows, etc..) - 5

Land activities - 4

Shopping - 4

Beaches - 4

Beauty - 4

Culture - 4

Water activities (snorkeling, scuba, etc.) - 3

Accommodations - 3

Cost (we're pretty flexible) - 2

Travel time (from NYC) - 2

In 2 weeks and island hopping you could check out the Greek Islands.

Mykonos - Santorini - Crete.

Get the ferry between each of these islands and experience what each have to offer.

Greek food is amazing

Night time entertainment is awesome on Mykonos, ok on Santorini and depending where on Crete the night life is also very very good.

Land Activities - there are plenty on each. Mykonos your should hire a quad bike and ride around the island;

Santorini you can do many walks especially the one from Oia to Fira;

and Crete there is so much. You can hire a car, walk, ride.

Shopping - not bad but better in the major capitals liek NYC. But for more local stuff Santorini and Crete is quite nice.

Beaches - all 3 are brilliant. My favourite beaches have to be Crete. Especially if you can drive around as there are many to choose from.

Beauty - Greek Islands is nothing but beautiful

Culture - amazing especially the Greek hospitality and friendliness.

Water Activities - there are many to choose from, including snorkel and scuba to canoing and kayaking or short boat rides.

Accomodation - loads to choose from. Plenty of variety from very basic to Luxurious resorts.

Cost - depending on accommodation but out of the 3 we found Mykonos to be the more expensive out of the 3 islands.

Travel from NYC well you can check that out with the airlines.

Have a look at the Cook Islands, South Pacific, also.

Hi yonahboy99,

2 weeks is a perfect timeframe to allow for Air NZ flights via LAX, directly into Rarotonga. The Cook Is was voted # 4 for "beach and sun'destination by TA for 2010.

Culture - ours is vibrant, fun-loving, friendly and highly interactive, central Polynesian (our closest cousins are Tahitiian). Our paradise is very safe too. English is spoken by the majority. Currency is Kiwi dollar.

Land activities - if you love scenic beauty, photography, safari adventures, hiking, tropical gardens, casual exploration, ancient caves, rare birds and lush tropical flora.

Shopping - Cook Islands "black pearls", local fashion, Tivaevae, browsing the craft stalls at the Saturday market, flavoursome foods, fresh produce.

Beaches - ours are a standout 5. Clear swimming lagoons, snorkelling, scuba, fishing tours, cruises, paddling, sailing, kite-boarding, surfing. Aitutaki island is reputed to have the most magnificent lagoon in the world - rivalled only by Tahiti.

Beauty - natural unspoilt scenery abounds. History and legends of the past combined. Stunning views of the lagoon, and ocean from every bechfront.

Accommodation from exclusive 5 star luxury villas all situated absolute beachfront to cute self-contained rental cottages, and backpackers. All accommodation blends beautifully into the surrounding island landscape.

Food - mainly Pacific Rim cuisine with twists of Asian and Mediterranean influences to add to the fresh appeal and colour. Cheap eats to fine dining.

Restaurants and cafes are dotted around both Rarotonga and Aitutaki, with the accommodation properties ofAustralian and Chilean wines available.

Micro-beer breweries on Rarotonga.

Cost - the biggest exxpense will be the return airfares aboard Air NZ. But it's a standout international airline which thoroughly spoils its passengers with comfort and inflight service. 5 star boutique accomm around $500 p.n.,+/- and depending on the style of vacation villa, the level of ultimate privacy and area of the beachfront you most prefer.

Hope this is a destination to consider! Cheers and all the best with your wedding and honeymoon planning. Frangipani.

Aruba and southern Caribbean islands -- less hurricane risk, and you can hop Aruba - Bonaire - Curacao easily....

Hello yonahboy,

You could do what me and my wife did and drive through Italy. We started in Rome drove to Venice and then to Milan and San Remo.

Four days in Rome should suffice. If you want to fly to Venice to save time it would be a good idea. Three days in Venice is good. We stayed on the Lido de Venezia at a B&B.

San Remo is a beautiful little coastal city in the northwest of Italy for three or four days. It would be a full day drive to San Remo. You can rent a car and go to Monaco for a day. It is only half an hour from San Remo. You could then take the train from Ventimiglia to Marseille for 3 days and return home from there.

Chris
