Most affordable? Hawaii, Australia, Greek islands?

Hi everyone,

So I’ve tried to look online for information on this, and I’ve been having trouble finding it, so I thought I’d post here. My fiance and I have narrowed it down to three options for our honeymoon: Hawaii (short stop in CA), Australia (Sydney plus Port Douglas/Cairns), or Greek island hopping.

I know that all of these locations are pretty far away from the East Coast, but I was wondering if anyone knew which would be most affordable/doable on a roughly $7k budget. Which would give the most bang for our buck, so to speak?

Also, on a related note, since we've both travelled quite a bit before, we were going to plan the honeymoon ourselves. Then a recently married couple told us it was better to go with a travel agent. Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!

Travel Agents don't charge for their services........I think you could do some prelimenary research on your own and ask a TA to fine tune it.........my take is the food/drink in Greece should be a lower overall cost than Oz and Hawaii by quite a bit, especially if you eat in smaller local establishments, but I don't know what flights/hotels would cost....depends on what you choose, especially the hotels............

In Hawaii you can find lodging ranging from $100 to $1000 a night. You have to research the islands you want to visit and decide if you want a nice resort vs. renting a condo privately. Hawaii food prices are similar to NY. You can eat at roadside stands, small inexpensive places or 5 star restaurants. With Hawaiian Air nonstop from JFK the transport is easy.

Based in sydney Oz so id love to give u more insight into down under :)

So sydney n cairns are in 2 different states so you would be looking at 2 different flights. Cheap n affordable though.

Sydney is very concrete/ business orientated. Alot to do: markets zoo darling harbour opera house and harbour bridge and the star casino. alot of cheap restaurants and alot not so cheap. But u pay for quality. Good thing about restaurants in Oz they dont expect tipping :) but u get the good service anyways. Also just outside of sydney are cute little boutique towns for day visits perfect for couples and the blue Mountains are beautiful year round.

Cairns? Port Douglas? Not sure why u picked these? Maybe the Barrier reef? Definitely an experience in its own. If u love the water n beaches then its a big tick. If u want romance, Whitsundays are lush. Expensive, but romantic and beautiful. But expensive.

Have u thought about Melbourne? It has culture, art, alot of great restaurants, great markets, and alot of entertainment at night. Melbourne is gorgeous for its culture if u like that. Plus hotels are ok priced. Again, its what you pay for.

Oz is a good pick. Ppl are friendly n laid back and are always up for a great time. Just say gday and you could make a mate or two on your travels :).

Greece and Hawaii are excellent too. Lucky you, spoiled for choice. Enjoy your holiday.

Start by looking at the air...not sure about from your city, but from Toronto, my friend spent $2K per person just for the airfare to Australia for her honeymoon...that wouldn't leave much in your budget. Hawaii can be done on your budget, as can the Greek Isles.

I think that the cheapest choice would be the Greek islands. They are also exotic and they feature beautiful scenery. From what I know, a vacation in that location can be quite cheap, as they always have various tour offers, including the accommodation, the breakfast and sometimes you can even find affordable all inclusive offers. Also, I think it is more fun and interesting to plan the honeymoon by yourselves, so maybe you should go for this version.
