Any cheap tropical honeymoon ideas/advice?

Hi we are in the stage of planning our honeymoon for Feb/March 2015 our budget max 5k just wondering if anyone has any ideas on cheap locations and also any hotels they recommend or any experiences they had with a good location and hotel. We live in Australia too if that helps.

We do have one location we don't intend on travelling and that's Bali.

How far are you willing to fly? You may want to figure that out first - as generally airfare is the most expensive part of the traveling.

I haven't been to Asia, but know that many places there are considered cheap by other travelers. Mexico is a cheap vacation for folks in US & Canada . . . but even Hawaii can be done on a budget.

If not Bali then Malaysia such as Langkawi or Penang, or Boracay in the Philippines might come within your budget.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding Wildmagiic 69,

Would consider Fiji. It is a short flight from Australia, with a number of airline choices. Have a look at the websites for Octopus, Mantaray. Lomani and Matamanoa, both adults only also suit. Some resorts quote in FD, AUD, NA, or USD so do the conversion rate.

If interested in Fiji, suggest posting on the Forum for other suggestions. Don't forget to include you budget and activities you are interested in.

Thailand has always been considered a bargain travel destination, and the weather in February is good....the flights are not overly long from Australia either......you might like Bangkok, and /or Phuket or some other area there......click the blue links in this post for access to the TA travel pages and local forums for more information on Thailand and what it offers

Hi Wildmagic,

You may be able to get a good airfare (Air NZ) from Sydney to Rarotonga during the off-season (Feb/March). The direct flight takes a little over 6 hours flying time, but once you arrive Rarotonga you'll be no more than 30 minutes drive from some wonderful beaches located in the SE and southern areas of the island.

I suggest you look at a s/c studio or 1 bedroom holiday villa that is within close proximity to licenced dining and a village store. Have a look at the Muri - Maai, Tikoki - Titikaveka, and Vaimaanga areas which receive cooling breezes over summer. Hire a scooter and explore the island taking in lagoon and land attractions.

The Cook Islands uses NZ dollars currency which is to Australian visitors advantage. All the best for your tropical honeymoon.

Why not fly with Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific Air from Sydney (the first daily, the second 4X weekly) to Manila and then visit a beautiful white sand island in the (central) Visayas (group of islands) such as Siquijor (see the Coco Grove Beach resort website for ferry times ex Dumaguete City), Bantayan or Malapascua (both by bus ex Cebu City's North Bus terminal, then a ferry ex Hagnaya for Bantayan or ex Maya for Malapascua>)

You could also fly from Manila to Busuanga and then stay offshore from Coron, Palawan at small places loike Coral Bay resort or Sangat Island. There are quite a few more. Look up 'Coron attractions' on TA.

Philippines has far fewer Australians than Thailand visiting. It is safe.

Book a Manila hotel in Makati for first and last nights via the excellent www.asiatravel.com Find a specialist Filipino travel agent in Sydney for the best airfare price if flying Philippine Airlines but use its website to compare prices www.philippineairlines.com. For Cebu Pacific, book online at its website www.cebupacificair.com
