What time of year? How long do you have?

Sacramento itself, to my tastes, isn't that interesting, but there's Lake Tahoe area or Gold Country not far away. Also, Napa or Sonoma if you're into wine tasting, come to mind. Depending on how long you have and how far from Sacremento you're happy to travel, there are plenty of further options including National Parks.

You could also ask on the Sacramento forum itself for the locals' opinions!

In Sacto., the American River Bike Trail runs right along the river for several miles from Discovery Park near downtown. If not to hot, a bike ride is fun & provides exercise.

A trip to Sutter's Mill where gold was discovered along HWY 49 makes a nice day trip.

Napa wine country is a nice day.

Drive down HWY 49 south through Sutter Creek to Angel's Camp is fun if you like a leisurely drive.
