21 days round rv trip from seattle

Hi all,

We are a family with two kids 14, 11 and it’s our first trip to U.S.

We pick-up r.v on 19/6 for 21 days, and planning to visit Yellowstone park through the States: Oregon, Idaho and if we will have time left we want to visit Glacier park on our way back to Seattle. The R.V rental comes with 2100 miles

Any ideas which places we should visit along the way?

Any other Tips are welcome

If you drive straight from Seattle to Yellowstone to Glacier and back to Seattle you are talking about over 1900 miles and that is not driving at all in Yellowstone NP.

Yellowstone is huge and there is much to see and do.

I hope the RV is not large because it is difficult to RV IMO in Yellowstone with curvy roads, wildlife, etc. Many people who RV there park the RV and either rent a car or bring a tow car. In Glacier you cannot take most RV's thru the main road of the park- the GTTSR.

There is only one campground in Yellowstone with full hook ups for a RV and you will for sure need reservations in the summer months. Otherwise you will need to stay in West Yellowstone. Here is link to camping info-

Good luck and please let us know if you have other questions.

PS. My folks RVed all over the US for over 25 years without a tow car but never in Yellowstone or Glacier- they flew out and drove thru the parks.

You do have plenty of time! That's good. You'll probably go over on miles. See if you can negotiate another 500.

Get a Class C Motorhome or the smallest your family can stand! You'll want the maneuverability in Yellowstone. Consider parking the RV at the KOA in West Yellowstone and renting a car to get around for two of the days, if that's possible in West.

As noted, for sure the mileage will be an issue. Here's a route suggestion:

- Seattle

- Portland

- Oregon Coast

- Redwoods in Northern California

- Bend to Boise to West Yellowstone

- Rent a car in West Yellowstone

- Direct West Yellowstone to Seattle

This route will give you 2,300 miles on the RV. You'll do hundreds of mile exploring Yellowstone so park the RV and rent a car. Will be cheaper and more convenient.

Have fun.

Thanks for all your advices.

The R.V is class C 27

How difficult is it driving a R.V to Grand Teton and Yellowstone main sites?

And how much miles approximately needed driving around those sites?

Since I post on both the road trip forum and Yellowstone forum I will share the mileage chart with you here-

nps.gov/yell/…YELLmap1.pdf

Yellowstone is huge and there is much to see. YNP has 2.2 million acres and over 251 miles of roads.

Driving the RV around Yellowstone and Grand Teton is not a problem. Nothing dramatic in the park. But you'll build up a lot of mileage. If we're staying in or around the park it's not unusual for us to do 100 miles or more a day easily just going from site to site. That's why several of us have suggested you think seriously about parking the RV and renting a car. You'll find it a LOT cheaper and convenient than driving the RV around.

You would be able to rent a car in Bozeman. If you have two drivers, you can caravan to West Yellowstone or Gardiner, set up camp, and move every two or three days. Much less stress finding camping spots too.

Speaking of which, you had better make some reservations!

West Yellowstone has car rentals in the summer months at the airport.
