When I decided to do a road trip, I was looking for a sample road trip itinerary so I would like to share this with you if it helps.
Started in Atlanta,
Day 1 - we saw the St. Louis Gateway Arch.
Day 2 - drove all day, but we saw some beautiful countryside - also saw the "Corn Palace" - building covered in corn!
Day 3 - Long drive through rolling hills and then Badlands National Park - amazing views of strange mountainous areas + also we saw many prarie dogs.
Then Mt. Rushmore (presidents faces on mountain).
Day 4 - Drove through beautiful mountains, rivers, and straight into Yellowstone National Park. Day 5 and we are finishing up Yellowstone. We spent the night in West Yellowstone Montana,
Day 5 - We finished up Yellowstone National Park. We drove down out through the Grand Tetons - beautiful mountains with snow on top! We spent the night in Jackson Hole - beautiful ski town.
Day 6 - AWESOME breakfast at Lotus Cafe - vegan organic bakery and cafe with wonderful healthy foods and smoothies!! :) Then we headed through Idaho and onto Oregon with a really long drive with beautiful scenery.
Day 7 - Made it to the coast of Oregon! First we ate lunch in a city called Eugene, Oregon - and we loved it!!! However, Florence, Oregon is where we ended up. This is a very small town with a BIG secret - the Oregon Sand Dunes! These Sand Dunes are hundreds of feet high and really beautiful, but the best thing to do is the Dune Buggy Ride!! We sped along at 65+ mph across, over, and around the sand dunes! This has got to be the best and most thrilling ride Spent the night in Gold Beach, Oregon and got a nice waterfront room with a pool table and ocean views at sunset :)
Day 8 - Drove down into California and saw the Redwood Forests of California.
Day 9 - Made it to San Francisco! We didn't have much time to spend in SF so we decided to see the Exploratorium - the best science museum in the world.
Day 10 - We spent the morning at Pier 39 in San Francisco and then drove onward to Yosemite national park. The most interesting part was that from Day 10 to Day 11 the temperature changed from around 40F to 90F!!! That was because we descended from the mountains into the desert of Nevada. We drove and drove all the way to....THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL HIGHWAY! We arrived at 12:58 AM and saw the black mailbox near the secret alien area (actually a white mailbox now) and we enjoyed the stars
Day 11 - Las Vegas.
Day 12: We woke up and saw the Hoover Dam but it was super windy and extremely hot so we just drove through. Then it was onward – passing through Route 66, America’s Mother Road – then to the Grand Canyon!! We arrived in the evening so it was too late to see the canyon but we sat outside at dark and saw MILLIONS of stars
Day 13: Early morning airplane ride above Grand Canyon. Then we drove south to Sedona, Arizona. The Red Rocks of Sedona are truly a sight to see! we hiked to Bell Rock. Even though it was around 116 degrees outside. We drove until 12am and spent the night in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Day 14: Drove ALL DAY (literally), ate lunch in Amarillo, and then slept near Oklahoma City.
Day 15: Drove ALL DAY again, ate lunch in Memphis... and made it to --- HOME SWEET HOME Atlanta!!!
