Eastern Europe road trip

Hey guys! I'm planning a journey by train starting in Prague and then going to Poland, Ukraine, and Romania. Would consider Moldova too maybe. I have about 4 to 6 weeks depending on how much I want to see.

In particular, Id like to see Sedlec Ossuary, Aushwitz, Wieliczka salt mines, Pripyat (Cheenoybl), Brasov (Dracula castle), and hopefully celebrate St Andrews Night (Dracula night) somewhere cool at the end of November. Otherwise, I am VERY eager to hear any and all other suggestions for this route. Please advise!!!

Hi Brooke

Welcome to the Road Trips forum.

<<I'm planning a journey by train>> is your opening line, despite the title suggestion a road trip.

So how exactly can we help you?

Try the train travel forum for train info:

tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g1-i12483-Train_Tr…

However, to comment briefly, some of the places on your list are not easily accessed by train, nor are all the train services you will encounter particularly comfortable at that time of year. Some will be freezing cold, others will be stifling hot with windows that won't open. Dress in layers!

Romania trades heavily on it's Dracula associations, but I don't have enough information to be sure that you won't find limited hotels and restaurants in the mountain areas in winter, and winters there can be long, dark and cold.

If you really do mean a road trip, you will struggle to find rental cars allowed in most of the places on your list, certainly Moldova is a major challenge.

Tell us more of your plans, as whether train or car and we can comment further.

Hello. Thanks for your response. I guess I meant road trip in the general sense, meaning, traveling by land. I am aware that not all of these places are easily accessible by train (like I believe you can only go to Pripyat by organized tour), but I would prefer to take trains rather than fly between locations.

I am also aware that it will be cold. I don't mind the cold. I'm just trying to put together a rough but realistic itinerary. Thanks!
