Hi and welcome to the forum.

Is it just the one overnight? What are your plans around Durango, plenty of cool stuff to see ( depending on your definition of cool) between LA and Durango.

The big obvious one being the Grand Canyon, but the attractions around Page ( Antelope Canyon etc.) Monument Valley and Mesa Verde are all other standout possibles, and there are plenty of others depending on route chosen.

Hi

>>driving to Durango in a few days<<

In which case, please may I recommend you check weather, traffic and road condition reports from DOT websites for the various states you will drive through. Not all roads in the Durango area are open, I understand.

Parts of R66 between Kingman and Seligman, Grand Canyon NP, Cameron Trading Post, Monument Valley, 4 corners. Flagstaff is an 7-8 hours drive from LA depending on traffic and stops and no snow. If you are interested Flag has Museum of Northern Arizona and Lowells Observatory for excellent nightskies you won't see in LA.

Flagstaff is a really fun town with great nightlife and, with the students mostly gone for winter break, it gains this laid-back atmosphere that's nice to be around. However, it will also be very cold at this time of year. If that doesn't sound nice, then you should find another town in which to overnight.

If you can get lodging at the Grand Canyon, then it would certainly be worth it to stay there.

Sedona's beautiful but, with the short daylight in December and the higher lodging prices there, I don't think it would be worth it. There's almost nothing to do there at night anyway.

If you want to stay at GCNP south rim make a reservation at www.grandcanyonlodges.com GC is more on your way to Durango than Sedona. And yes, they roll up the pavement and turn off the lights by 9 pm -lol-

Tet, might come with a 4 star price though! ; ).

Don't think there's anything in Tusayan either, although the Best Western markets itself as a resort, with prices to match.
