Road trip with Travel Trailer From Vancouver to Disneyland

LOOKING for Advice!

We are planning a trip during spring break this year! We are driving down with our truck and trailer and wanting to know where we should stop and where we should stay along the way!

Our primary reason for going is at the end Disneyland and San diego so any advice on where to camp in those two areas would be greatly appreciated!

As well as we want the adventure along the way and on the way back home!

We have two kids ages 9 and 7... so making it a kid friendly trip as well!

Does anyone know about camping over night at Walmarts along the way?

We don't have a set budget and are into trying anything along the way!

Would love to hear what people have to say that have tried this!

Thanks

My friends did that drive in August. They're going to Disneyland again next year, but not taking the travel trailer.

I think they stopped at casinos for their overnights. I don't know if they stayed in actual RV Parks or just set up the trailer in the parking lot.

Some Walmarts allow overnight parking, but not all. I think they don't want their property to become a homeless encampment.

If you want "the adventure" of the trip, I recommend taking at least 4 or 5 days for each direction (southbound and northbound.) If you're just trying to save money by bringing your own beds, I think driving your best mileage car and staying across the street from Disneyland may work out to be a better deal (faster travel on I-5, closer to Disneyland Park.)

Hi,

In San Diego, there are several options for camping.

North of the city near Carlsbad, there are South Carlsbad and San Elijo State Beaches. Both are small state parks with campsites right on the beach. They're about 45 minutes to an hour from most of the city's major attractions, however.

On Mission Bay, there are two commercial campgrounds, neither of which I have used, so I can't offer first-hand insights:

But both are conveniently located to the majority of San Diego's attractions (<30 minute drive).

Finally, there's Silver Strand State Beach which is on the isthmus of land that connects Coronado to Imperial Beach.

When you "camp" there, you are literally parking your camper on asphalt in a parking lot. But you also are steps from the beach. It's probably a 20 - 40 minute drive to most attractions from there, plus, there are NO commercial facilities nearby, so you'll have to drive everywhere.
