LV Loop! - Vegas road trip advice.

Please could somebody advise if the following road trip idea is a little too much, or would be fine?

Also, if this is fine, and you think I can fit more in along the route please advise?

Maybe I have missed a main attractions/sightseeing opportunity along the way too?

Day 1:

08:00 - Set out from LV Strip to Bryce Canyon Lodge (taking the route through Zion NP and stopping at any points of interest along the way)

13:00 - Approx arrival time at Bryce Canyon. Drop bags and go for a wander!

STAY IN BRYCE NP

Day 2:

08:00 - Set out from Bryce Canyon to Page

11:00 - Approx arrival time. Drop bags and head off for Antelope Canyon

If time have a look at other sights around Page

STAY IN PAGE

Day 3:

09:00 - Set out from Page to Grand Canyon NP.

See horseshoe bend en route

11:00 - Approx arrival time. Drop bags and go for a mule ride excursion into the canyon.

STAY IN GRAND CANYON NP (El Tovar Hotel)

Day 4:

10:00 - Set out from Grand Canyon NP to Vegas Strip

Take Rte 66 route and stop at sights along the way.

See Hoover Dam and possibly take the tour.

17:00 - Approx arrival time in LV.

STAY IN LAS VEGAS

Thanks Guys!!

Wow! That's a lot and a lot of beautiful scenery. Personally, I think you would want to stay in Zion for more than a drive through. We spent 2 days there and definitely want to go back to see more. You can easily hike for hours and hours in Bryce and the lighting at different times of day is extraordinary.

Day 4 is the one day of your trip we have more or less done as you describe. We left Grand Canyon early, stopped in Kingman, arrived at the Dam around 3:45 Arizona time, took the Dam Tour (which I recommend) and ended up in Vegas in time for a twilight walk along the strip. So I know that has worked in the past and that was before the new bridge by Hoover Dam so traffic should be less ridiculous now.

Hi visitall50,

Thanks for your reply.

Its good to know that Day 4 worked out well for you, seeing as that will be the longest driving time on the trip.

I am hoping that there will be enough to see to ensure that the driving time feels like less.

I think we will do the Hoover Dam tour, it will just depend how tired we are from all the driving. Saying that, stopping and having a break will probably be nice.

As for Zion NP, I got the impression that the scenic drive through the canyon was the main thing to see there? Any specific sights or thing to do in Zion NP that you recommend?

Thanks

Chris

Your drive times are not correct ......

Vegas to bryce....it takes 4 hrs if you do a route that avoids Zion. To go through Zion with traffic and stops you are looking at getting to Bryce around 4pm or later at least.

Bryce to page......drive time s 3 hrs but you go back an hr in time so leaving at 8am you get to page at 10am local time.

With Hoover dam -- I don't recall when the last tour happens. It could be something like 4pm. You may not have time to do it if you do alot of stops on 66.

Hi Dan P,

Sorry I went off Google Maps, which states (based on current traffic estimations) that going through Zion NP to Bryce Canyon, takes 4hrs, 16mins. I allowed 5 hours for any possible short stops.

(https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Luxor+Hotel+%26+Casino,+3900+S+Las+Vegas+Blvd,+Las+Vegas,+NV+89119,+United+States/Bryce+Canyon+National+Park,+Hwy+63,+Bryce+Canyon,+UT+84764,+United+States/@37.0663887,-115.8667995,7z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x80c8c5ce3e5cb447:0xb5a742eafd00138!2m2!1d-115.176067!2d36.09551!1m5!1m1!1s0x87356bc602c3eb2d:0x6be9d8fbbeac6d06!2m2!1d-112.18709!2d37.593038!5i1)

Thanks for reminding me about the hour back/forward change...totally forgot!

We should get to Hoover Dam around 3pm at the latest (again based on google maps time+ some short stops).

Cheers

Really appreciating the hints and tips guys...keep them coming!

What's the opinion on if i'm possibly overstretching myself?

Or have I missed any worthwhile sights en route?

Cheers,

Hi Chris

On classic Google Maps, click the chain link icon symbol on the left. Then tick the box for Short URL. That URL will be hyperlinked when you post it on TripAdvisor.

Sorry, tried that PacificNWFamily, but it didn't work for me!

Any more advice such as this trip would be possibly over-stretching myself?

Or if have I missed any worthwhile sights on my route?

Regards

Chris

Hi

I haven't looked at your plan in the OP in any great detail and I can't open any links, so not seen more recent itterations, if there are significant changes. However, I'd say it doesn't start too well. I've not check driving distances against google maps, and there are divisions even among us regulars on this forum about driving time accuracy. I'd say, for a tourist, the times are optimistic as a guide. Quite why - even if timing wise it's possible - you'd want to dash from LV to Bryce Lodge, zipping right through Zion and ticking that box without really seeing it is puzzling.

It's your trip, and you decide if it's a quick zoom or not but, to me, comments like "stopping at any points of interest along the way" or "If time have a look at other sights" ring alarm bells. Unless you slow down your pace, intentionally, and decide to make time for these other points of interest, you won't have time to add them.

Lots of folk do a fast paced trip, which is fine, but I'm getting the impression you think you are doing a leisurely one, but it reads like quite a fly by to me.
